I would really not recommend you go for 2 days to maldives

1) transfer costs will add to much for only 2 nights
2) you loose to much time getting to and from resort
3) the chance of rain spoiling one day isn't small and by you that would be 50% of your vacation

Stay longer in thailand and keep it for another day

I disagree

-you also did it as a blogger, so you can write a tr about it

-not everyone sits on millions of miles, so flight costs for 2 days do matter

Even without that, I just disagree... the maldives is a place to relax and with 2 days, you just relaxing before packing again

Obviously longer is better. But time isn't a luxury everyone has.
Besides, for me it was more about the snorkeling.  More than 2 days of doing nothing and I go stir crazy.

So is dragging out TRs into 59 parts and writing pointless captions.

So... here's an idea:

Write them without the parts? Without the pointless captions?

3 days/2 Nights is fine IMHO

When I was there we had met a couple that was there for 23 nights for their honeymoon. Bet they had their divorce papers signed and sealed when they got back home

From the few trips I've had to "exotic" destinations it seems that the European guests tend to spend a much longer time at a single destination than the Americans. Might be wrong though

To make clear, I'm looking for a 2 week trip, with stops in MLE, Thailand & other cities. 2 nights at MLE is fine with me, but as AJK wrote, I hope the weather plays along.

Which activities does the Halaveli offer? And for that matter for which activities should I look out for when looking at a resort?

Besides snorkeling...

I'm with chuchem on this one. Unless you are absolutely certain that you are the "ants in your pants" type, I see nothing good coming out of such a short trip, especially during monsoon season. Yes, Dan got lucky, having two gorgeous days there; but generally, the chances of something going wrong on such a short trip is extremely high. Many factors are not in your favor, and you have precious few days to allocate for screwups.

When we went during monsoon season, the first two days were so bad, that one night we called the reception to point out that our entire villa was literally shaking from the rain and wind, and ask if we should we be concerned (they told us it's normal). And then... the weather cleared up into the most breathtakingly beautiful scenery I have ever seen in my entire life. :D

Now, imagine my trip would have been over at that point, because I had decided to stay for only 2 days...
Bet they had their divorce papers signed and sealed when they got back home
Never mind that - we probably would've shot ourselves if our only two days would've been ruined like that. :P

there are
$750/night.

That's a savings of nearly 20% or $600.

But, hey, its your money.
With the tax and fees it will be $800 plus...

Anyhow I am really leaning to the Anantara Veli Resort. The OWB w/ pool is just 9 months old and the room is 125 sq.m plus a nice size deck. The reviews on TA are excellent and the pictures look very nice as well.
