Is it rogers in la jolla? I thought it was "Ralphs"...

Also there is a kosher takeout/deli/grocery place in San Diego called "The Place".

San Diego REFUNDED
« Reply #23 on: May 12, 2010, 04:29:25 PM »
Thanks all for your suggestions. I would have certainly made a trip-report here, except that on Monday evening, the Mrs. and I decided not to go and had no problem making a phone call to JetBlue for a refund back to the CC. The weather in San Diego was slated to be a little chilly, and we had some other things come up that made it a better decision to skip the spontaneous 6-hr each way sojourn out to Cali for 2 days.

Either way, we are still looking forward to our Europe trip in just over a week!

Help with San Diego trip from NYC
« Reply #24 on: May 18, 2010, 07:20:23 AM »
I was hoping some of you could help me with my trip from NYC to San Diego this August.  We will be a total of 7 people and plan on being there for about a week.

Any suggestions of things to do besides seaworld, disneyland, legoland and the zoo would be appreciated. (nice hikes, biking, segway tours etc..)

We plan on renting a house for most of the time, but will be staying in a hotel for a couple of nights i have tons of starpoints and hyatt nights - any suggestions on the nicest hyatt or starwoods property for a family.  We specifically would want the nicest view and location even if that is not the nicest room out there.

I also need help with tickets.  I was hoping to use my 200K BA miles to book tickets on AA.  Unfortunately, there is absolutely no availability.  I really don't want to shell out cash for the tix, on the other hand it would be a pity to use up so many starpoints for this.  If anyone has any ideas on how to obtain tickets using my BA miles it would really be appreciated. (I am trying to accumulate AA miles at this point but don't know how many i will have in time).

i used to do priceline and for $100 i would usually get either the westin horton or the omni (which in some rooms i think you can actually watch the padres game) but do your research first on biddingfortravel and betterbidding.
theres mission bay where you can take out boats, waverunner etc. we used a company called seaforth. theres also parasailing there
they also have a location in downtown which is cool as you can take out a boat/wavrunner next to the docked aircraft carrier, or further down to see the active submarines.
youre also 15 minutes from tijuana. you can park your car in one of the lots, which has a bus that takes you to the tourist street. i wouldnt recommend venturing far from that street though.
another cool thing i did was from carlsbad airport around 40 mis away they have these openair biplane rides over legoland, the ocean, and some beautiful homes

did you look at flying into and out of ONT (Ontario) or SNA (Santa Ana a/k/a Orange County a/k/a John Wayne) it wont be non-stops and its apx 1 1/2 to 2 hr drive and drive along the Pacific is beautiful.

Ive done the reverse numerous times needed to be in LA but SAN was alot cheaper to fly into so I did and drove up to LA

also look into flying out of PHL again with stops parking is $7 a day alot cheaper then most other airports if you park by the 4 pts Hotel even w/o staying there

San Diego Hotel with lots of kids
« Reply #28 on: May 24, 2010, 09:07:04 AM »
Once again, big fan of DD site and all forum info.

Planning a summer trip to San Diego with family (6 kids) and need some sort of hotel suite situation. Anyone have any advice which direction I should go to get reservations with points or good deals. The Homewood Suites seems to be the biggest option with 2 room suites and big living room with pull out couch, but they're $300 a night. Is that as good as it gets?

Thanks

I think the doubletree has some big rooms that are cheap.  I know the suite we were in had a bunk bed.  But I believe they have an even bigger size room.  I believe they charge under $200 for the room.

I dont know if youre looking to be close to a minyan - but in the college area - there's a
(lamplighter) best western that the frum community has a corp rate with, i believe, and you can get a nice clean, but simple room for about 75 a night.  Its a obo 10 minute walk to beth jacob.  The complementary breakfast there is mostly kosher, including the bages and breads...Theyre right in the frum community so theyre very aware of shabbos - opening your rooms and such. There's a kosher grocery -the place across the st.

What is the best San diego hotel on spg?  Which is the best area of San Diego to stay in?  I'm thinking of the Sheraton hotel and marina or the w San Diego.  Any thoughts?

It's downtown. Not a resort, but a very classy place.

Hyatt and SPG both have an impressive amount of hotels in San Diego.

The Park Hyatt Aviara (formerly Four Seasons) and Hyatt Andaz San Diego are both on my "to-do" list.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

Just stayed at PH Aviara. Absolutely stunning. Free upgrade to a suite based on Diamond status. Great addition to Hyatt.
