Hi, I’m going to LA for a week in the summer, just me and my wife, and will spend just one day in San Diego. We have been to Sea World recently so we won’t be going there but we definitely want to check out the San Diego Zoo. Which is the better thing to do, the zoo, or the safari? Thanks
I don't know about either (didn't go) but you definitely want to check out La Jolla Coves/ La Jolla Childrens Pool/Scripps Park/ Seal Beach.

They are all in one place and can be seen in 1-2 hours. Zoos/animals can be seen anywhere, but the natural beautiful scenery of La Jolla is a rare sight you don't want to miss!

Safari may be very hot in the summer (it is farther East) - I would do the zoo.

La Cafe - still in business, changed menus, has yummy fish tacos on Tuesdays.

Beth Jacob restaurant - starts July 30th, will be Sunday - Thursday, 5-9

what is the situation for keeping the (long) line moving at a good (NY) pace?

yes

solution i used was to download the menu, order 45 minutes before arrival and then it was ready more or less when i got there...another tip is not to come around davening times as it fills up then...

IIRC they have an early mincha so time your arrival around then and catch maariv after...

Is there anyone that has done the safari in San Diego that can chime in and let me know how good it is? (Despite how hot it may be)

I know that the US Grant and the Sheraton Harbor are very different hotels.
Any advice to the advantages of each? (going with wife, no kids)
thanks

Can anyone recommend a photographer in San Diego. Looking for something reasonably priced ($250 max, with all photos on a CD included)

$425 for 25 images on CD. Cheaper than some of the others but still exorbitant

I have not used her (yet-I have plans to) but I have seen many of her pictures.  I am sure she can send you some examples of her work.

I'm planning an extended weekend visit to the San Diego area in August. We're a family of 8, so we're especially looking for something family friendly.

I think I'd prefer to stay in La Jolla as it seems to be a more interesting area overall.

I have SPG Gold and Hyatt Plat. Gold level status with another few progs as well.

Staying within walking distance of a minyan is a must (for Shabbos).

I wouldn't mind a vrbo'esque rental as well.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

I think VRBO is hard to come by in that area. I had emailed the shul and they said they would hang a flyer up of I sent them one. Maybe try that and see of anyone in the shul is away and wants to rent out their house.
Otherwise I think residence inn la jolla is your best option
