Just ate at the grille last week. Was very happy with both the quality and the taste of the food. Simple food, but very tasty.

Is there anywhere to go for dinner? Just the BBQs in the shul and Chabad house?

I went to a nice place a few years ago but it seems it's closed now.. that true?

also ralphs in la Jolla has an great and extensive  kosher take out section

With very bad service.

I know at 6:00 on a Sunday  when I was there it was swamped.  They don't handle rush hour well.

But if you can find off peak hours there is a big selection of fresh hot food and salads and a grill etc.....

I will be there after The Grille closes for the season... So the only kosher food option is going to be Ralph's?

Has anyone done the kayaking at La Jolla Cove? Good idea or not to attempt with a 4 year old?

i have. i dont think its a bad idea, call up one of the places and ask them, dont know if they will even let.  the 4 year old will add some weight and not help in the rowing but should have fun on it.

Thanks for the feedback.  I called one of the places that does kayaking over there and they said officially the minimum age is five.  But he did say no one will ask you for ID so you can try to sneak him in. My biggest concern is that he will jump out or fall out of the kayak. With my son it's more likely jump out.

he will be wearing a life vest and you will be keeping a close watch on him.  the kayak isnt that big that he will be roaming away from your arms reach, he will be right next to you.
But of course, you know your own child and what is a good idea for him

i did it 2 years ago
as someone said, he wont help with rowing, which gets rough, and towards the end, you may fall out, but close to shore, so no big deal

Just make sure to reserve well in advance. When I called the company that I bought a living social with I was told that I had to book two weeks in advance and ended up paying the difference to go on a regular priced tour

I really enjoyed zoo. Google the most efficient way to see it though. I didn't and ended up walking more than I had to. There is a system out there though. I think you're supposed to start from the top

Do you have a link or any info on what is the most efficient way to see the zoo. Tried looking for some intel but most sites said there is no efficient way to see the zoo because of the layout.

Maybe take the bus ride first thing you arrive and write down what you want to do and where it is.

Thanks. That makes sense and I read that but then read another tip that said save the bus ride for the afternoon when you (and especially your kids) are tired from walking around all morning.  :o

I personally did the latter and for that very reason. Though  a lot say you should do it first so to get an idea of what you're looking at.

I looked at the map and decided what we wanted to see because some things you can see in any zoo. We first took the tram to the other side of the park. We enjoyed the Elephant Keeper talk which showed how they move the elephant from one area to the other area and watched them check the elephants feet for health while distracting it with food. We took the hop on hop off bus when we were really tired. Went to see the pandas but after waiting in a long line, they were sleeping in a tree. The place is huge!

Not sure if the wiki is updated. What's the best kosher restaurant with a good hashgacha there? Both dairy and meat. Thanks
