Last time I went we went to the JCC which was actually pretty good. And another place in some other area not too far away. Can't remember the name but I'm pretty sure I posted about it here. On a mobile now so can't check easy.

the place at jcc is very homey and simple. burgers are patties in a bun without any special flavor, taste fine and kids will be happy with some ketchup. simple israeli salad and fake shawarma (chicken with seasoning) that taste fine. if its busy its a mess, but same for Ralph's (u can wait online for a while at busy times, so go early if u can). Ralph's is great for sushi and more tasty treats to go, but the place lets you sit down, eat and leave.

What is your temperature comfort zone? You're probably going to experience high 60s. Maybe low 70s.

All depends on your luck but almost definitely you'll be able to spend time and hang around the beach but the only question is how cold the water will be and if you can swim

la jolla has great beaches -- I've mainly been there for sunsets. For Friday afternoon with children, you can research if there are better beaches...

Thanks! Landing in LA wed afternoon. Going to pick up food and drive down. Kids are little so beach sounds like best idea.

Can I buy food for shabbos in Ralph's? Do they have kosher sushi?

You have beautiful beaches in la Jolla ( pronounced La Hoya btw) and in the mission bay area. You'd probably want to find a quite spot.)

Rent a little speedboat near the Hilton Mission Bay and cruise around the bay for 1/2 day.
