Totally disagree. Was super unimpressed and housekeeping was a disaster. I only had the 2 bedroom signature suite not the presidential but wished I were back at the Fairmont when I was there. I'm a bit of a hotel snob I guess. Did not feel luxurious even in a huge suite, also beds were not comfortable and not the bedding I look forward to at hotels. My other family members were very happy and the size of the suite seriously impressed them.
I believe the reason for that, like you just mentioned, you're a hotel snob.

Also you didn’t get personal with the hotel.... if you do some leg work beforehand you would see what I mean. I guess it depends on your personality.

But actually your right in a way.... the presidential suite I saw on the 39th floor is something to avoid. Lower ceilings. And smaller windows compared to other rooms.

A review I read on TripAdvisor or Google summed it up pretty well... The rooms are more Hyatt regency not what you would expect from a grand Hyatt. Housekeeping was so bad. All they did was make the beds and give new towels. Our garbage was left where it was on the dining room table, no crumbs wiped up, shoes not moved to the side... Even my family members who were impressed with the suite couldn't believe that.

Going end of January for 7-10 days with DW and two kids, ages 5&6.

I have 60K IHG with a free night, 43K SPG gold status, and plenty UR, MR, or I can pay cash.

Are there any IHG options worth writing home about? Has anyone done Airbnb? Tips? Shabbos meals? La Jolla vs. Coronado?

Are there any SPG or IGH options with suites+kitchenette? I'd appreciate any help I can get on this.

Thanks

Going to be in SD for a week would like to be near a shul for Shabbos. Should I stay in residence inn la Jolla? I have 3 kids and 2 adults. Any better options?  Also if going to Residence inn for a week should I just book a regular room and hope for upgrade to a suite since I'm gold?

PSA For anyone coming to San Diego- chabad La Jolla opened up abminyan for shabbas literally in the residence inn La Jolla! I had no idea till I randomly saw frum people today.  They had a full delicious lunch everyone was invited too and they wanted to get the word out to let travelers know. Minyan Friday night and shabbas day in meeting room above the lobby, toys for kids in the playroom and a great energetic young rabbi who mostly does campus kiruv during school season (minyan still located here during winter as well). Please spread word, really enhanced shabbas here.

Is the Shabbos Minyan in Residence Inn La Jolla still active?

Edit: Apparently it is.

this might not help you much but I was there last week of Aug 2017 and the minyan was still going but they couldn't get a minyan Friday night and for mincha Shabbat afternoon- rabbi told me they usually have a stronger crowd when college is in session.

Residence Inn by Marriott San Diego La Jolla is a nice place, especially if you have SPG/Marriott points. Two bedroom/two floor villa options with nice kitchen. There's a Shabbos minyan by the Chabad shaliach for SD State University on premises, with a Kidduch/lunch after musaf. The whole area is within the eruv too. Complimentary breakfast in the lobby with many kosher options. If you want proof they'll show you the bags/packaging of most items.
