i think u just caught them on a bad day...been there a few times recently and wasn't too bad
I'm gonna have to agree with you. I brought bbq chicken and kugel to the lounge on my way home and it was outstanding chicken for takeout. There are certain things that you just don't get from a takeout counter Dan and IMHO I think sushi is one of them. It's like getting pizza from one of those kosher vending machines...just no chance of it being good.

That's why we also got fried chicken, hamburgers, grilled cheese, etc. besides for sushi.
The kugel was nothing special either (they gave me that instead of french fries with my burger as they were out of fries IIRC).  The fried chicken was the only thing worthwhile, but I wouldn't call it great/outstanding.  It was good and that's about it.
Didn't notice any bbq chicken.

Everyone's entitled to their own opinions.  I was only there once, it's also possible they were having a bad day.  It definitely was a slowwwww day if nothing else.

Eateries: Is it still Ralphs and La Cafe?

Anything new?

Any good links to discounted tickets to Sea World and Lego land?

Yes, still Ralphs & La Cafe.
There is also a kosher snackbar at the JCC in La Jolla (owned by The Place)

Just got back from SD. Stayed at Sheraton hotel and Marina. It's a beautiful category 4 SPG. Got upgraded to a pacific suite because of platnium SPG. Was plenty of room for the whole family (6 total).

Got tickets to Lego land and Sea world for less than half price on craigs list which I picked up locally (cash transaction only)

Ate at Ralphs and La Cafe. both excellent!

In la jolla, my friend stayed at the Hyatt and said it was nice. Very mixed reviews on trip advisor

Look at travelzoo.com under local deals for San Diego - there are a couple of nice options.

Other ideas (more kid friendly) - hike Torrey Pines, beaches, Cabrillo National Monument (they have a ranger program too), Knotts Soak City

Will be there this summer. Haven't planned yet, but look into buying a go card. Gets you entrance to basically every attraction in town, often allowing you to skip the line. Seems like a lot if kid friendly stuff is included

Any recommendations for a more quiet/secluded place to take older kids snorkeling?

You can go snorkeling by la jolla, have you ever tried SUPING (stand up paddleboarding)? I did that at la jolla it was fun. Also got to swim with some 7 foot long leopard sharks which was really scary till we found out they are harmless... Also chabad of la costa has an all you can eat BBQ dinner every Sunday of the summer, if your in that area definitely worth going. Another idea which you can really do anywhere is going to a shooting range I remember there was one in San Diago with really nice employees.

+1 on the Chabad at Lacosta BBQ. we were there last year and food was fantastic.    also about 10 min north of there there is a lagoon where your kids can learn to wakeboard (much safer then mission bay etc... there will be no other boats) there are also jetski, kayak & stand up paddle rentals as well as tube rides behind a motor boat (that they drive).  it is not cheap - i think it is 140 an hour but it was exhilirating for the kids that did it...
