Look at travelzoo.com under local deals for San Diego - there are a couple of nice options.

Other ideas (more kid friendly) - hike Torrey Pines, beaches, Cabrillo National Monument (they have a ranger program too), Knotts Soak City

aside from the activities already mentioned, we also enjoyed the gliderport near torrey pines.  one of my sons (10 at the time) actually did a tandem flight, but i had to sign away his life about 200 times first.

Did anyone stay in the Sheraton Carlsbad Resort & Spa? How is it? Is there a shoul walking distance from the hotel?

Could work. Any comparable Hyatts?

I stayed at the Manchester Grand Hyatt. Nice large hotel in a good location.

Has anyone stayed at the Hyatt Regency Mission Bay? Pool area looks like a mini GH kauai. I am looking to stay closer to the San Diego activities than Park Hyatt Aviara and this looks like a good alternative

If you want downtown- here is the Chabad with a link to Hotels nearby. Might want to check with them if they have regular minyans.

Yes - Residence Inn La Jolla is closest to Adat Yeshurun (and within the eruv).  Ask if they have a special rate for the synagogue.  Adat has a regular minyan.  The community takes in shabbos early - 7:10 PM - I think mincha is at 645 PM Friday

we stayed at residence inn la jolla for the past two summers.  they are very accommodating for shabbos.  Please be aware that they did install light sensors in the rooms - i am not sure if they have any rooms without them, so you need to take care of those before shabbos by taping them up.  (you will need to plug a lamp in the bathroom if you need light in there....).  Also, the stoves have glass cooktops so speak to your LOR if you plan on using them.

the sheraton is a bit further from the shul, but certainly walkable maybe 5 minutes further.  the hard part of the walk is the steep hill between the shul and the residence inn but we did not have any problem with it....

also, don't accidentally go to the non-orthodox shul down the block from Adath Yeshurun (unless your wife wants an aliyah!)

these hotels are both a minute (by car) from Ralph's so they are convenient for food etc...

if you prefer to stay in San Diego and not La Jolla then you will want to look into the best western lamplighter there.

I stay in the Lamplighter inn Best Western to get to Beth Jacob. They are great and already know all the shabbos rules. Very friendly!
