Travel during 3 weeks / 9 days
« on: May 01, 2012, 05:47:05 PM »
Is it OK to travel during 3 weeks or nine days to Israel?
To see family (Grandmother)?
Does anyone know of a Q and A Sheela asked to a Gadol about this?

During the three weeks I would for sure go. I would try to not fly during the nine days but if that's when it worked out I would go. I wouldn't go touring and all that stuff in Israel during the nine days. But to visit my grandmother, sure.
That's just me of course.  If you want an answer from a Rabbi you should probably ask your LOR. Not look for a general question asked to a Gadol. etc.

Rabbi Laibel Kaplan A"H from Tzfas once asked the Rebbe about going to israel in the 3 weeks and the Rebbe answered that he should start packing before the 3 weeks so that its like a continuation. To be more specific the Rebbe told him to put 1st the tefilin in his suitcase even though he will take it out later.

I love how most people just write what they want as if their wives never visit this site. The funny part is they probably don't.

Side note I once went in the ocean during the nine days for an extended "mikva" dip erev shabbos, and I almost drowned. I'll never make that mistake again.

GIFY When someone says "the rebbe" it generally has a specific connotation especially because of the demographics on ddf...

I will go out on a limb and guess that there are more Lubavitch Chassidim on this site than of any other Chassidus!

when i took my family to E"Y a few years ago, the timing worked out better for us to travel to E"Y during the 9 days.  I asked my rav and he told me that it was not a problem.  I also took along some bochurim o.n the trip and they each asked their own rav.  I would suggest that you ask your rav as well as each situation is different.
