I am looking for a cheap device that is just for email (dont mind web but dont want to pay for it) dont care if its 2g,3g,4g.  It just needs to have a keyboard.  I prefer with no monthly commitment as some months I need it some I dont.  I do NOT want a phone plan on it, because I already have a phone plan.

The reason why I need this is because I have a great phone plan with att (grandfathered) and I dont want to get data from them bc its very expensive, but I need to have email all the time so I dont mind a seperate device (must have a full keyboard not just a number pad).

I have old unlocked blackberries for att if those can be used to save money on the device.

your input is appreciated.

How much is cheap? What are you looking to spend?

I dont have a budget in mind (the cheaper the better) but I would say my ceiling on the plan is 30/month.  But I would like to spend less.

Here's a monthly plan for 2GB unlimited Data for $30 (includes 100 minutes)

 2.5 GB with 300 minutes   http://www.virginmobileusa.com/cell-phone-plans/beyond-talk-plans.jsp

and here's a peek

http://www.amazon.com/Peek-Mobile-E-mail-Device-Gray/dp/B001FC0BWE  just to see what it looks like. Though I recall that they stopped service so I am not sure why it's still being sold.

Yeah I was hoping that I could find something like peek or something cheaper than 30/month.  I guess I will have to keep my ears open or maybe just go for the tmobile deal.

Another idea I did for a friend.

I added a line to my Sprint Family Plan which has 1500 minutes, unlimited to MOBILE phones and unlimited data.
They don't use any landline minutes. They do the occasional call to a cell or two (because it's not extra. ) Free nights and weekends. And unlimited Data.
And they pay me the $20 a month.

Something along those lines might end up being the cheapest for you.

That is a brilliant idea.  Does only sprint have such a deal? Does tmobile or att or verizon have a similar 20/month deal?

It all depends on how much it costs to add a line. And if it costs extra for unlimited Data then you have to figure that in to. But it's def something to look into.

I noticed I can get a $20 plan on att added on but its 300MB of data.  I am concerned if I get this my android phone will go over the limit by itself.  is there any way to ensure that the phone stays under that 300 mb of data and that only the apps that I want to access data (email) will get data from the network and the rest will only use wifi.

Thanks

If I can droidwall off and only allow like one of programs to access email that would be awesome.  Bc 200MB can go through verrrrryyyyyyyy FAST

What about getting a 'dumb-phone' that has a keyboard for all your email needs? Wouldn't that be easier? So you don't have to worry about Android using up all your data?

droidwall looks like it would be perfect for what I need, I could make it so that only my email app has access through 3g and so that everything else is forced to use wifi.  Not a bad deal.
