Why aren't you upset at the Kapel as well, there were no kippas back then as well...

The answer is: That's what the kids can relate to. Well, they can relate to smartphones as well because they see them all the time.

So lets train our kids young to know that smartphones are dangerous devices...

This is debatable what the dangers are, and what the solutions are.
But to tell kids that only Goyim have smartphones and when Yisroi became Jewish he broke his smartphone, and then he sees his father and many other Heimish people have one (& FYI I have one with a great filter according to all the rules set by my kehila) what do you think this kid thinks?
His Rabbi is saying that only Goyim have it, and he sees his father with one, so either his father is an undercover Goy, or his Rabbi is a lier, and if so how should he believe him on other things he teaches?

I hear what you are saying. Good point. It could be very damaging what the Rebbe is saying.
If so, you should really talk to the principal about it. Especially if this isn't the first time.
