So 20,000 should stop everything and come, to prove this is a strong point?
I can't see anything else that they're doing, but that's crazy.
I am not arguing with you ...

The Rabonim feel this is prob better.

Only after we'll see/know if it was a success or failure
It very well could be a major success.

Out of curosity, were any Rabbanim who would be considered part of the MO world invited? How about those in between the different worlds (R. Shechter at YU comes to mind)?
Or are they all considered outside to begin with?
As if the MO rabbanim would agree to everything that's going to be said at the Asifah, when they don't asur TV, LOL. C'mon gimme a break. Stop picking on the Rabbanim just to pick on them.

what will make this a success?
if everyone there buys a filter- odds are most of those going have some sort of filter already so then this is just for chizuk and how would it be judged a failure

You're right, MO Rabbanim are pro-porn and actively encourage it...  Get real.

First off, many of the Rabbanim who will attend won't agree w/ e/t said, since they think the internet is totally asur to begin with.
Secondly, this isn't about tv or a/t else. It's about porn, and e/o agrees as to its danger.

If they truly want all of klal yisrael (or the religious part at least) then they should at least attempt to invite other 'types' of rabbanim. To not do this is to make the whole 'unity' idea a fraud. Either do a true unity, or don't call it such.

I completely disagree.

Reuven yekiri, if you thought this was all about porn, i totally understand why you were wondering why MO wasn't invited. But, as someone who's been around some of the Rabbanim and Askanim involved in the Asifah, let me tell you it's about much more than that. Is that a tremendous problem? - of course, but it's much more than that. The reason why TV was asered was bec. it is a window into the "treifene goiyisha gas", the internet is that times 10,000,000. If the Goverment would successfully censor porn, they, i believe, would still make this asifah, just if there was YouTube, Hulu, Netflix, Facebook and the NY Post. Thats why it's not exactly the issue you would team up with the MO communitty about. We don't exactly share the same views about the "treifene goiyisha gas".

Men have a 1 track mind, but there are many other addiction problems associated with the internet. People actually feel a little withdrawal after not checking their emails for a three day yom tov.  Kids (some adults) are addicted to Facebook and social networking sites. Others are addicted to forums...   ;)

I return to my question. This isn't an issue that would bother non-Yeshivish Rabbanim?
Fine fine, they assume it wouldn't bother them. But obviously they approached them in the name of 'unity'. Right? Just like they approached Satmer and Chabad, even though there was a chance they wouldn't join.

They probably didn't. The message at the Asifa will include: Don't watch TV shows online, don't visit sites like Facebook/twitter/pinterest/forums/blogs/CNN/Vosisneias/youtube etc etc.

MO (and also many mainstream orthodox - thus the probable low turnout) has no interest in hearing that.

If you would ask the organizers what they mean by 'You can't live without it', they probably have a very limited definition of 'permitted use'.
I would imagine something like strict business needs, or contacting a company that doesn't have a phone number so you have to email them, booking a flight or paying bills etc (although I would imagine that even bills they would tell you that if it's possible to pay by check - that is preferable)....

Similar to what was posted above, even if porn didn't exist, this asifa would still be called, and the message wouldn't change all that much.

O course everyone is encouraged to come. Why would anyone think that only "yeshivish" rabbanim and sects are being encouraged. Who actually attends is a completely different story...

Make up your mind (pun), which one is it?

Fine fine, they assume it wouldn't bother them. But obviously they approached them in the name of 'unity'. Right? Just like they approached Satmer and Chabad, even though there was a chance they wouldn't join.

Chabd was only approached because of what had (allegedly) taken place at the Satmar meeting. That, and the fact that (sadly to say) they've sold less seats than expected.
