Topic Wiki

This is the thread where you can ask any random question you have. Feel free to ask even the most basic questions that you otherwise might be embarrassed to ask. This is the thread for beginners, so veterans here will treat you nicely. Ask a beginner's Q in some other threads and no guarantee of that same treatment. ;)
People here want to help, so just have some patience, follow the tips below and hopefully someone will help you when they have a chance.

If you looking for a particular thread you once saw and can't find it, this is not the place to ask. Check out Help Me Find It and ask there.

How to ask a question in this thread:
Click the blue reply button at the top or bottom of the page, type your question, and click post!

Some helpful tips for eliciting answers from other members:
- Keep your question short and precise. No one wants to read a megillah.
- The more questions you ask in one post, the less likely any will be answered. People are willing to answer a question or two, but if you ask all the questions that apply to your particular issue, you're expecting to be spoonfed. Members don't like holding out the spoon, so ask accordingly.

can someone tell me the pros and cons of bluebird vs amazon payments vs evolve?
or if there is an existing thread discussing this- where to find it.
also- if there is another such service that i should know about.

a con for bb is that i would need to go to an actual wm and depend on the cashiers for loading. (i live in brooklyn).

a con for ap is you have to be VERY careful on transferring money from one account to the next

a huge con for evolve that i know of is that they tell you whom you can pay and since i don't have a mortgage or anything like that the only payment i need to make is a couple hundred for my car and i can't see where else to put the money.

anything i'm missing??
Go to the main forum page and use the search function and you will find links to all those threads.

You've got the cons right.
BB pro- you can pay any bill.  You can even get a check yourself.
AP - con - limit 1K/ mon
check out the AP thread- it can be done safely!

See if you can find someone willing to give YOU the check they would normally send to pay their bills, and you pay the bill for them with evolve.  parents/ uncles/ friends

obviously i know that! all 3 master threads are constantly on the "unread" list... I've read all 3 (yes even the bb that has 614 pages) from beginning to end. I've even posted in all 3 of them as well. however, i'm looking for the pros and cons of each and every one of them side by side

chase cc- to gc-to ap-to bb-to chase?

this way, i can avoid the trip to wm and avoid the ap issue of a-to b-to bank

yes, you can.  But loading the BB with AP money that can be put into a bank account, doesn't gain you any cc use.
It does give that account a different bank account on the AP profile.

i know, it's just SUCH a schlep to go to wm. i'm in kj like once a month and with only a $1k limit...
this way, it's all online except for the actual purchase of gc which i can do at gas stations (sp), lowes (frdm), or staples (ink)

So ignore BB except when you now you'll be near WM.  Just do AP and evolve.

My ace in the hole is that my daughter lives out of town near a WM.   :)
But she loads my BBs slowly.  :-\  It's better than nothing.

I don't like evolve. Not useful for me at all. I don't have a mortgage...

Maybe your parents or someone will let you pay the mortgage in exchange for their usual mortgage check.  Or their car payments.

re-posting a question I posted which didn't get answered.

I applied for the sapphire preferred and was rejected because of lack of credit line. I have only one CC from my bank with 1000 dollar credit limit. I have it for 4 years and missed only one payment on time, but i guess that's not enough.

My question is where do I go from here? I guess I have to open some more basic cards before I go for the sapphire, so which should it be? and should it be from chase? any reason to wait after being rejected before applying for the more basic card?

And, after I have another card, how long should I wait before applying again for the Sapphire preferred?

Thanks!

Chase's basic, but really good card, is Freedom.  Don't do a 2BM.  Just try for that.  Slate also has no AF and has a good balance transfer rate, but you probably don't want to take advantage of that.
I don't know which other cards are the easiest to get.

The SP is more of their high end card. I would say you can try for the Freedom, United, or BA card. One of my first cards from Chase was the BA and from there I worked my way up.

My bank is Bank of America. I have a TD account too, but the card is BoA.

Of the three cards mentioned I would like the United since I'm in Israel and it doesn't have forex fees. The BA doesn't either but it has an annual fee, it seems. The freedom would seem like the basic. Am I chancing getting rejected again if I go for the United or BA vs. the Freedom, or they're all about the same "level"?

The no forex fees is significant.  What if you get the Freedom but can't get the UA also?

Then you'll have a freedom and have to pay forex fees.  You're better off that each card you apply for is OK for it to be your only approval.

So let me clarify. Right now I'm interested in getting just one card as a step toward the Sapphire. My main concern is not getting rejected. I don't think I have bad credit, I missed one payment in 4 yrs, it's just that my 1000 credit limit is not enough to get the sapphire. So of the three cards mentioned, since I would prefer the United, is there more of a chance getting rejected for the united than for the freedom?

sorry if it sounds convoluted.

I don't know about rejection rates, but if you get only 1 card, don't you want it to be the united?
