Topic Wiki

This is the thread where you can ask any random question you have. Feel free to ask even the most basic questions that you otherwise might be embarrassed to ask. This is the thread for beginners, so veterans here will treat you nicely. Ask a beginner's Q in some other threads and no guarantee of that same treatment. ;)
People here want to help, so just have some patience, follow the tips below and hopefully someone will help you when they have a chance.

If you looking for a particular thread you once saw and can't find it, this is not the place to ask. Check out Help Me Find It and ask there.

How to ask a question in this thread:
Click the blue reply button at the top or bottom of the page, type your question, and click post!

Some helpful tips for eliciting answers from other members:
- Keep your question short and precise. No one wants to read a megillah.
- The more questions you ask in one post, the less likely any will be answered. People are willing to answer a question or two, but if you ask all the questions that apply to your particular issue, you're expecting to be spoonfed. Members don't like holding out the spoon, so ask accordingly.

That would be nice! But it's easy enough to open a new CC and get another 50K miles
Planning a vacation to Maui on Feb 12.  I don't have enough time for that.

What's the best program/value for an award flight from NYC to South Florida? I have points in most of the major programs + UR.

Thanks, that's what I thought. But I was hoping to get to PBI or FLL over MIA.
Any other insight?

Planning a vacation to Maui on Feb 12.  I don't have enough time for that.
So open a Barclays Arrival Plus card and book the extra flights on that. Since you'll be booking paid US Airway flights you can use your companion pass to pay for one ticket. After meeting the $3,000 spend requirement to get the card's sign up bonus, you'll have enough points to refeem for $460 towards the tickets. If you also want to do manufactured spending you can get much more. Say you have 4 red cards, you'll be able to manufacture spend $20,000 a month at Target - good for another $400 to redeem towards the flights. With this card you have 120 days after making a travel purchase to redeem points towards the purchase. So say you manufacture spend $20,000 a month for 4 months after purchasing the tickets, you'll have enough points for a $2060 statement credit towards your travel.

Barclays points can be redeemed for any travel-related item you charge on their card.
So get the card. Buy one US Airway flights and you can use your companion pass to pay for one ticket. Then the price of the cash ticket can be redeemed on your on line account with the bonus points you will have earned for opening the card.
Additional MS helps pay for any other paid portion of the trip charged to the Arrival card.

Book a Southwest Anytime fare. Wait a couple if days for it to post on your credit card. Redeem your points to pay for the ticket. Cancel the ticket.

Thanks. I would love to do that myself, but I can't right now since I'm in Israel. Instead I made my father an au and sent him a couple of redcards so whenever he goes to Target I ask him to load up my redcards and pay for my summer vacation!

And a nood
Although I only decided to sign up to ddf yesterday, I've been reading up everything Dan has to say for over a year and have some personal experience signing up for credit cards, and manufacturing spend ever since I turned 18 (9+ months ago!). So I'd like to think I'm not as much of a noob as my dansdeals non-elite status suggests. ;-)

Point is that even with hundreds of posts you might still be acting like a n00b

True enough. I  have just noticed that sometimes someone with a low post count gets jumped on even when saying something correct and reasonable

If you really want to expedite it then you should call, it may take time till they respond to your SM
