Is there any reason not to add my new amex starwood biz to my regular amex profile as opposed to creating a new one? this is my regular card and not an AU?

If you apply for a card and get denied, you can get a report.

Even if you get approved, being as your credit history was a factor in determining your credit limit, no?

Iirc, they do not know if you were approved or denied.

As ot played a role in tje decision, like the extent of your credit line, you are entitled.

Funding a bank account with a credit card and paying off the other cards with it was probably the OP's best option, actually. Free balance transfer with full points awarded, and possibly a decent signup bonus. Much simpler than VGC MS for a beginner.

Is there a thread dedicated specifically to discussing closing cards and avoiding AFs? I opened an Amex MB Plat just over a month ago, points posted and now I want to cancel and have $475 AF reimbursed. Just looking for the basics on timing and execution (call vs chat? AF auto reimbursed or I have to ask? Pay off balance before canceling, or cancel and then pay?)

You have 60 days from the time the AF was billed for you to close and receive a full refund, after 60 days it's prorated.
It will be automatically created to the account.
Makes no difference if you pay your balance before or after you cancel.
