Topic Wiki

This is the thread where you can ask any random question you have. Feel free to ask even the most basic questions that you otherwise might be embarrassed to ask. This is the thread for beginners, so veterans here will treat you nicely. Ask a beginner's Q in some other threads and no guarantee of that same treatment. ;)
People here want to help, so just have some patience, follow the tips below and hopefully someone will help you when they have a chance.

If you looking for a particular thread you once saw and can't find it, this is not the place to ask. Check out Help Me Find It and ask there.

How to ask a question in this thread:
Click the blue reply button at the top or bottom of the page, type your question, and click post!

Some helpful tips for eliciting answers from other members:
- Keep your question short and precise. No one wants to read a megillah.
- The more questions you ask in one post, the less likely any will be answered. People are willing to answer a question or two, but if you ask all the questions that apply to your particular issue, you're expecting to be spoonfed. Members don't like holding out the spoon, so ask accordingly.

Woops, Chase.

If you're reporting income, have a nice score, and not too many outstanding CLs/cards, you should wait 60 days (at very least 30 days) since your last Chase app to apply. Once applying, consider doing a 2/3bm to get the most out of the credit pull.

Thanks. It all worked out. Closed a United card. Then reapplied for it again. Probably not the smartest thing in the world to do. I couldn't claim I needed two for spending because I haven't used it in forever on that persons account. And so many of the accounts still have United cards or even two since the Continental ones turned into United also. I want to keep taking advantage of the 55,000 offer right now.

I have an account that has only 1 Chase account open. Can I do a 2BM? I'm afraid they'll want me to close down 2 cards (1 to get each card approved)

Thoughts?

I'm not sure I understand your question correctly. It seems as if your asking to do a 2bm when you only have 1 active card? if that's indeed the question, why would it make a differnce. do a 2bm.

You don't *have* to have 2 cards to do a 2BM. That would only be true if working off the premise that for one to be approved for a 2BM, you'd have to close one old card in favor of a new card. But you don't.

If you only have one card, either your CR can support an additional 1 (or 2 depending on how you look at it), or it won't. But prepare to recon.

After closing a card, how long do you need to wait before reapplying for the card again?

I've done A couple hours. But I'd wait a day because it didn't show the card was closed when I applied.

Yup. Did one after an hour. And a different one a day after. The later was an instant approval.

United Explorer.

Have you closed/reapplied with other banks, Amex, etc.?  What was your experience?

Also, how many times have you closed/reapplied United Explorer cards?

My only successful churns of same cards have been Amex SPG Personal (same day close/reapply a couple years ago), Citi AA Amex & Visa (20 month wait), and Barclays USAir (12 month wait).

I've only done the United about 3/4 times.
