Topic Wiki

This is the thread where you can ask any random question you have. Feel free to ask even the most basic questions that you otherwise might be embarrassed to ask. This is the thread for beginners, so veterans here will treat you nicely. Ask a beginner's Q in some other threads and no guarantee of that same treatment. ;)
People here want to help, so just have some patience, follow the tips below and hopefully someone will help you when they have a chance.

If you looking for a particular thread you once saw and can't find it, this is not the place to ask. Check out Help Me Find It and ask there.

How to ask a question in this thread:
Click the blue reply button at the top or bottom of the page, type your question, and click post!

Some helpful tips for eliciting answers from other members:
- Keep your question short and precise. No one wants to read a megillah.
- The more questions you ask in one post, the less likely any will be answered. People are willing to answer a question or two, but if you ask all the questions that apply to your particular issue, you're expecting to be spoonfed. Members don't like holding out the spoon, so ask accordingly.

Okay, I need help with organization and having a system. I have the following accts: ST, Ally, UFB, GoBank, (2) Citibank, (3) Serve, (2) T-Mo. I finally figured out where to use what cards, MOs, etc.

I need help in figuring out which to use as a primary acct for BP, which accts to ACH in/out of, etc. I end up with money spread out between all of them varying from 2-10k. Subsequently I end up making multiple payments from multiple accounts. It drives me crazy, but I can't stand seeing a CC bill above 5k. Feel free to PM me if you'd be more comfortable discussing that way.

What is hat tips?
If you post a deal here on DDF that then gets posted to DDMS you get the credit in the form of a hat tip.

it means that the ddms post originated from that members post on the forums. It's dans way of acknowledging where the post came from.

How can I get rid of a thread that I once participated, and I no longer want it should show under my   " SHOW NEW REPLIES TO YOUR POST " section

Check that thread off on the right side & then "ignore topics" on top of the page.

Notify is for email notifications. It would still show up in "show new replies".

When liquidating GC's into money order's, who is the recommended recipient of the MO? Do you have to specify the recipient, or just take it somewhere like a bank to deposit it into your account, or send it straight to your CC company?

Is there a thread that explains this part? I've never used that method for liquidating GCs before so a bit clueless. Thanks!

Bank
But do some research first into which banks are more tolerant of money orders than others. And don't use a bank that you particularly mind being thrown out of (such as chase, for example).
Who do you think you are fooling? You think you are going to pull a quick one on your Creator? Good luck with that.

Thanks! I went and read the thread and saw the spreadsheet. I don't know how to do formulas in Excel but I do have a spread sheet to keep track of CCs with similar info. I color code those for closed, sock drawer, active cards. I also have a sheet for AORs and one that has CC/reward log in information including CC numbers, exp. date and CV code.

I just haven't figured out a system with what account to pay what CC with. I know (heard) some are low volume, like T-Mo, and have to be kept to less than 1k for BP. I've also heard it's better not to pay Amex from Serve, so I'm thinking of using UFB for Amex.

ST is our home bank. I have a relationship with them and started depositing some MOs a few times a month before I got UFB about a month ago. I've spent some time with one of their CSRs and although we haven't talked about it, she knows I'm in the game--new CC bill pay, etc. Once she talked to me about a new travel CC that ST was offering and said you can even buy GCs with it. Really? I didn't get the card, but agreed to an appointment with their FA and we'll park some of the money from the sale of our house there next year. You know, social engineering.

Guess I'm looking for people with similar accounts (ST, Ally, UFB, Citibank, Gobank, Serve, T-Mo) as to how they manage BP. Do they use multiple ones for BP, ACH in, ACH out (for BP and to other accts) make one payment a month from one account, multiple payments from multiple accounts, etc. That's the area I need to come up with a system!

Hmm, as much bartering as there is I'm surprised HT's haven't entered the arena. Will trade free night for 10 HT's.. (Not me. I need my free nights).
