Topic Wiki

This is the thread where you can ask any random question you have. Feel free to ask even the most basic questions that you otherwise might be embarrassed to ask. This is the thread for beginners, so veterans here will treat you nicely. Ask a beginner's Q in some other threads and no guarantee of that same treatment. ;)
People here want to help, so just have some patience, follow the tips below and hopefully someone will help you when they have a chance.

If you looking for a particular thread you once saw and can't find it, this is not the place to ask. Check out Help Me Find It and ask there.

How to ask a question in this thread:
Click the blue reply button at the top or bottom of the page, type your question, and click post!

Some helpful tips for eliciting answers from other members:
- Keep your question short and precise. No one wants to read a megillah.
- The more questions you ask in one post, the less likely any will be answered. People are willing to answer a question or two, but if you ask all the questions that apply to your particular issue, you're expecting to be spoonfed. Members don't like holding out the spoon, so ask accordingly.

When buying OV GCs using OBC, do most people just load the full $500 or do different amounts? Wondering if I should mix it up...

That's what I've been doing, but after a recent FR (for another reason), feeling a little skittish and didn't know if I should try to be more discrete. Doing variable amounts would be a pain to track and Mske it more difficult to max out prepaid cards though.

I just found out (at CVS ) that my license expired. Will CVS take my passport as ID?

For scanning purposes it won't work.

Of course!
+1
IME no. As pointed out above it doesn't scan. Which is what cvs does to enforce the 2K daily limit, they're not just matching name to cc like most stores do.

Personal dp.
Just went back to CVS and gave the cashier my Australian passport. He looked for a moment at the screen and found an option to manually input a passport number, however they only accept US and CA passports for ID.
I then gave him my license which he scanned, and then he said (reading off the screen)  something to the effect of "expired ID detected please check expiration date".
(Grammar Nazis please correct me if that period should be before the end of quotation)
He punched in an expiration date in January and that was that.
I don't sin, I give myself opportunities to repent.

If I have a CA passport and a license, would that bump me up to $4k/day?

Why would you guess that most banks like them, and why does it seem your bank likes them?
They are depositing checks and hold the money for (at least) a day. Isn't that part of what the banking business is about?

Stuff are sold here all day everyday. The saying goes that an established DDF'er has a reputation to keep & thus won't mess you up. You could PM a few DDF'ers if they personally have dealt with an individual. It goes both ways though. (If someone messes you up & doesn't fix it you could PM a mod)
