Topic Wiki

This is the thread where you can ask any random question you have. Feel free to ask even the most basic questions that you otherwise might be embarrassed to ask. This is the thread for beginners, so veterans here will treat you nicely. Ask a beginner's Q in some other threads and no guarantee of that same treatment. ;)
People here want to help, so just have some patience, follow the tips below and hopefully someone will help you when they have a chance.

If you looking for a particular thread you once saw and can't find it, this is not the place to ask. Check out Help Me Find It and ask there.

How to ask a question in this thread:
Click the blue reply button at the top or bottom of the page, type your question, and click post!

Some helpful tips for eliciting answers from other members:
- Keep your question short and precise. No one wants to read a megillah.
- The more questions you ask in one post, the less likely any will be answered. People are wiling to answer a question or two, but if you ask all the questions that apply to your particular issue, you're expecting to be spoonfed. Members don't like holding out the spoon, so ask accordingly.

Why not try for Sapphire preferred?
Same issue if you don't have any cards yet.

Hi, I currently have zero credit cards but I'm looking to open one for when i go to Eretz Yisroel, im"H this pesach.
Which card is the best to open with the most benefits and no international fees?
I would try for the capital one Journey as a first card to build credit now and then possibly possibly try for a sapphire preferred card Pesach time as you may have built enough credit by then but YMMV. Even then it may be too early.

So first try for an easy card now, maybe like an amex no annual fee card. Then right before you leave to israel you may have enough credit to get a better card

But if there's an easy card with no forex fees, that would be the one to start with so you at least have that to use in Israel.  And if you can get a better 'travel' card before your trip, use it to book things and you can still use the first card on the trip itself.
But you likely will have booked the tickets and things before you apply for the second card.

True, but he does want a card with good "benefits"

From my research, I would think that UR are the most "fluid." Meaning, I don't necessarily have a specific destination/time in mind at the moment that I'd want to use points towards. At one point I was considering working up Southwest points (for the companion pass, etc) but they don't fly direct from NYC to a few of the destinations I'd possibly be interested in.

I'm also figuring on using them in the US for the near future.

Is my thinking correct?

Does United Plan B still work? The last post I found on that is from 2014.
Also, once I get the business class seats, how do I add a baby with a bassinet?

From time amex posts AF, how long do I have after paying it to get reimbursed? 30 or 60 days from time it was posted?
