Topic Wiki

This is the thread where you can ask any random question you have. Feel free to ask even the most basic questions that you otherwise might be embarrassed to ask. This is the thread for beginners, so veterans here will treat you nicely. Ask a beginner's Q in some other threads and no guarantee of that same treatment. ;)
People here want to help, so just have some patience, follow the tips below and hopefully someone will help you when they have a chance.

If you looking for a particular thread you once saw and can't find it, this is not the place to ask. Check out Help Me Find It and ask there.

How to ask a question in this thread:
Click the blue reply button at the top or bottom of the page, type your question, and click post!

Some helpful tips for eliciting answers from other members:
- Keep your question short and precise. No one wants to read a megillah.
- The more questions you ask in one post, the less likely any will be answered. People are willing to answer a question or two, but if you ask all the questions that apply to your particular issue, you're expecting to be spoonfed. Members don't like holding out the spoon, so ask accordingly.

Hello. I am new to this and was looking into signing up for a new credit card. Which cards would you recommend I apply for? My main objective is to accumulate miles with the most cash value

Chase points are high value.
There are Ink cards with high Sign Up Bonuses.  These are Chases business cards.
Search DansDeals main site for info on signing up for business cards and Inks in particular.
There are also threads in DDF that deal with Which card to sign up for, or getting large SUBs.
My favorite cause: cssy.org

Which is?

As a new member with one message limit I would like to see what this threshold is as well.

Also as a new member, I wonder if some sort of new member validation such as a 'proof of life' photo would be an option. E.g. holding a current paper and sign with your user name. I get that the volunteers supporting these forums can't take on a verification service ala LinkedIn, PayPal etc, so just thinking of ways that users could promote their own verification without putting extra burden on mods.

Add helpful posts, and people will realize that you are a nice fellow.

When I trade with someone here, first thing I do is review their posts.

Tried calling reconsideration?

I think Chase needs one year of history.

Not sure if there's a better thread, but this is kinda a DDF etiquette question. Curious to hear what people think:

Let's say you see a new post in a thread, which reminds you that you had something that you wanted to post in that thread.

Do you post it right then and there, immediately after the other guy's post, effectively diverting attention from his post? Or do you wait for his post to have some time to be noticed, and then post your thing?

For example, say you see that someone posted something new in the Pet Peeves thread, and then you're reminded that you had wanted to post about a pet peeve that you have. Do you do it right then and there, or allow the DDF masses to thoroughly discuss that guy's pet peeve before throwing yours into the thread?

Really relevant in any master thread with discussion on various areas of a topic.

Thoughts?

I was gonna ask an unrelated question but now I'll wait :D

Kidding. I'd say if you can, wait a little while and see. Keep the tab opened so you don't forget...
Workflowy. You won't know what you're missing until you try it.

+100

This definitely happened to me, and had similar thoughts, as to what to do.

To post it right then and there? Probably not the nicest thing to do. Wait a bit, even a hour or two is usually long enough. Every case is different. Use your own judgement.

Hi! New here, and I was curious what the different DD statuses mean. Like "Dansdeals Lifetime" or "Presidential Platinum Elite". Thanks.

It automatically goes up with the number of posts you post. There is a thread somewhere that details the name for each amount of posts, not sure where it is.

Not sure about that. But you can try asking @YitzyS how likes will pay your grocery bills.
