Topic Wiki

This is the thread where you can ask any random question you have. Feel free to ask even the most basic questions that you otherwise might be embarrassed to ask. This is the thread for beginners, so veterans here will treat you nicely. Ask a beginner's Q in some other threads and no guarantee of that same treatment. ;)
People here want to help, so just have some patience, follow the tips below and hopefully someone will help you when they have a chance.

If you looking for a particular thread you once saw and can't find it, this is not the place to ask. Check out Help Me Find It and ask there.

How to ask a question in this thread:
Click the blue reply button at the top or bottom of the page, type your question, and click post!

Some helpful tips for eliciting answers from other members:
- Keep your question short and precise. No one wants to read a megillah.
- The more questions you ask in one post, the less likely any will be answered. People are willing to answer a question or two, but if you ask all the questions that apply to your particular issue, you're expecting to be spoonfed. Members don't like holding out the spoon, so ask accordingly.

I have 2,335 elevate (virgin America) points about to expire. Is there anything I can do to keep them? Is it even worth keeping them? It seems like their cheapest awards start at 2,500.

I don't think VA has magazines to but. But to get activity in the account you can transfer in 200 Amex MR points yielding 100 VA points. It'll extend the life of the VA miles for 18 months. If you just need another 165 for an award, it'd be worth transferring in 400 Amex MR to get 200 as well.
If you don't have MR, I'd look into buying a small amount of miles to extend the life and get up to 2500 for an award.

I looked into buying but its rediculous. $40 for 500 miles. And the 2,500 award is SFO to LAX !!

I think the lowest delta is 25k.

12.5 each way is the lowest.

No

That would be nice! But it's easy enough to open a new CC and get another 50K miles

What's the best program/value for an award flight from NYC to South Florida? I have points in most of the major programs + UR.
