Topic Wiki

This is the thread where you can ask any random question you have. Feel free to ask even the most basic questions that you otherwise might be embarrassed to ask. This is the thread for beginners, so veterans here will treat you nicely. Ask a beginner's Q in some other threads and no guarantee of that same treatment. ;)
People here want to help, so just have some patience, follow the tips below and hopefully someone will help you when they have a chance.

If you looking for a particular thread you once saw and can't find it, this is not the place to ask. Check out Help Me Find It and ask there.

How to ask a question in this thread:
Click the blue reply button at the top or bottom of the page, type your question, and click post!

Some helpful tips for eliciting answers from other members:
- Keep your question short and precise. No one wants to read a megillah.
- The more questions you ask in one post, the less likely any will be answered. People are willing to answer a question or two, but if you ask all the questions that apply to your particular issue, you're expecting to be spoonfed. Members don't like holding out the spoon, so ask accordingly.

It all depends on your relatives needs and spending.  However if your relative is looking for the longest 0% apr as possible, the Citi Simplicity card is free and has 0% intro apr for 18 months.  For the best rewards for everyday spending and 0% intro apr, the American Express Everyday Preferred card is the best choice with 0% apr for 15 months but it comes with a $95 annual fee.

If a bank purges your account, will you receive the signup bonus for that credit card if it was canceled within 2 years? ( For a card that bank says needs to be closed for 2 years to receive bonus.)

The Chase cards you can get and even he airline and hotel ones with a little effort. All this without even having your accounts purged.

I find it very hard to wade through all the info here, so please forgive me if this has been asked elsewhere.
I dabble in this stuff; I don't do it hardcore. But I do like to open a new card before a major purchase so I can quickly meet a spending threshold for bonus points.
I'm about to buy a $1700 item. I have a sapphire preferred open now, and have recently had a BA visa. I also have a Hilton Amex.
Which new card should I open to make my purchase? For shalom bayis reasons, I don't want to keep it open for too long after the buy.
Thanks.
