Topic Wiki

This is the thread where you can ask any random question you have. Feel free to ask even the most basic questions that you otherwise might be embarrassed to ask. This is the thread for beginners, so veterans here will treat you nicely. Ask a beginner's Q in some other threads and no guarantee of that same treatment. ;)
People here want to help, so just have some patience, follow the tips below and hopefully someone will help you when they have a chance.

If you looking for a particular thread you once saw and can't find it, this is not the place to ask. Check out Help Me Find It and ask there.

How to ask a question in this thread:
Click the blue reply button at the top or bottom of the page, type your question, and click post!

Some helpful tips for eliciting answers from other members:
- Keep your question short and precise. No one wants to read a megillah.
- The more questions you ask in one post, the less likely any will be answered. People are willing to answer a question or two, but if you ask all the questions that apply to your particular issue, you're expecting to be spoonfed. Members don't like holding out the spoon, so ask accordingly.

Where do I search for flights bookable with KF miles?
They're also in star Alliance with United. The best place to start is United's site. There's a "star Alliance award tips" stickied at the top of the flight board. Check there for more info (sorry can't link).

When you close down a Chase card and then reapply shortly after for the same card, what do you tell recon (assuming you have to call) if/when they ask why you're reapplying for a card you just shut down?
Don't ask stupid questions and you won't get stupid answers

Don't have any Amex cards. What should be my first one?
Depends but SPG is easy to get and has a good bonus if you can spend 5k in 6 months.

You can say you didn't want to pay the annual fee so you closed it  but you didn't realize all the benefits that it came with

So once you comment on a thread it seems that it will always come up under "show new replies to your posts" when something new gets posted. Anyway to get rid of certain threads for that view?

Also, what about the exact opposite? Wanting to have certain threads pop up there that I have not commented on?

[I know I could select "notify" but that sends me an email. I dont want that, rather want it to pop up there. Also, I know I could just comment something but I dont just want to write something random for no reason.]

AFAIK that's the only way. Just don't make it look too random, or people might complain :)

You could check off "ignore topic"
If you haven't commented it should show up by "show unread posts"

Yes. You may need to enable it under settings, but it should give you an option to ignore threads.

Interesting. I might need to play with layout/modify profile because I don't see some of those.

If you click "modify profile" by account settings there's "ignore topic options" & it'll show all the threads being ignored. & there's the option to un-ignore.

On a flight TLV-YYZ-EWR, is there any way to get my luggage in YYZ? thinking of ditching the last leg.

Does it change if there is an overnight layover?

IDK.  The question is: Do you go through customs and immigration in Canada?
Maybe you can call the airline and ask that?
When you come into NYC you go through customs and immigration, so you need to get your luggage.

IME if you are just changing planes or stopping over you don't go through customs so you don't need your luggage.
