Topic Wiki

This is the thread where you can ask any random question you have. Feel free to ask even the most basic questions that you otherwise might be embarrassed to ask. This is the thread for beginners, so veterans here will treat you nicely. Ask a beginner's Q in some other threads and no guarantee of that same treatment. ;)
People here want to help, so just have some patience, follow the tips below and hopefully someone will help you when they have a chance.

If you looking for a particular thread you once saw and can't find it, this is not the place to ask. Check out Help Me Find It and ask there.

How to ask a question in this thread:
Click the blue reply button at the top or bottom of the page, type your question, and click post!

Some helpful tips for eliciting answers from other members:
- Keep your question short and precise. No one wants to read a megillah.
- The more questions you ask in one post, the less likely any will be answered. People are willing to answer a question or two, but if you ask all the questions that apply to your particular issue, you're expecting to be spoonfed. Members don't like holding out the spoon, so ask accordingly.

Any reason why not ?
I'm pretty new to this whole thing. How do I get one? And what do I do next?

I forget who says it, but I heard once that included in the נעשה is נשמע that enables you to do it, and then another נעשה comes afterwards.

For a select few, yes. Everybody else seems like no :P

Low APR credit card
« Reply #5150 on: August 23, 2015, 06:14:10 PM »
I'm looking for a thread about a credit card with a low apr.  I'm in a tight spot for a couple of months, and I need to carry a balance.  Can anyone direct me in the right direction (i.e. either a previous post about low apr credit cards, or advice on the lowest ones).  I can get 6.9% from USAA with a 3% balance transfer.

Freedom has zero percent introductory apr, and slate has balance transfer. Good luck. I hope everything works out sooner and easier than expected.

This is not for everyone, but what I do when I need to carry a balance for a few months is to run up the equivalent amount in GCs (I assume you are talking about less than ten thousand dollars which can easily be MSd and cashed out) then pay off the original card.

The "interest" in that case are the MS fees. $12 for every thousand I need to float is fairly cheap, plus I get the miles. If using a card with a great currency like SPG, you're paying $12 in fees for $16-18 in points which you can even sell later if you wish.

Of course, some people will just run up crazy debt this way and end up paying interest anyways. Like I said, it's not for everyone.

On second thought, maybe you should just get a Slate and do a balance transfer.

This isn't really the right forum for this topic. Nobody (or almost nobody) here looks at the interest rates when they get a card. Try CreditBoards forum (also on Tapatalk), I think you'll do better there.  Best wishes.

I recommended the Slate card.

So did I, but this topic isn't really the main focus of ddf.
