Topic Wiki

This is the thread where you can ask any random question you have. Feel free to ask even the most basic questions that you otherwise might be embarrassed to ask. This is the thread for beginners, so veterans here will treat you nicely. Ask a beginner's Q in some other threads and no guarantee of that same treatment. ;)
People here want to help, so just have some patience, follow the tips below and hopefully someone will help you when they have a chance.

If you looking for a particular thread you once saw and can't find it, this is not the place to ask. Check out Help Me Find It and ask there.

How to ask a question in this thread:
Click the blue reply button at the top or bottom of the page, type your question, and click post!

Some helpful tips for eliciting answers from other members:
- Keep your question short and precise. No one wants to read a megillah.
- The more questions you ask in one post, the less likely any will be answered. People are willing to answer a question or two, but if you ask all the questions that apply to your particular issue, you're expecting to be spoonfed. Members don't like holding out the spoon, so ask accordingly.

I was looking through the travel forum, and saw the recommendation for musement for tours. Does anyone have recent experiences they want to share? We're taking a 7 Day Western Mediterranean Cruise. I would like to see Pompeii while docked in Naples. Current price for two is $212 for 8 hours Pompeii and Amalfi Coast. Worth it? I know it's a subjective question.

Also looking to book high speed train from Rome to Venice S. Lucia. I saw Trentalia and a site for Eurail. Are there any other sites that might have discounted fares?

all official sites will have same pricing and most 3rd party sites will charge a premium, try italiarail.com.

I have used Musement and was happy. You can likely find it around 20% cheaper if that matters.

worth it? I personally have always been fascinated by Pompeii and it would take a lot more than that to get me to miss it

Thanks for the replies about Musement and Pompeii and the link for the train. I haven't checked out the link yet, but I will! 20% cheaper  with Musement is great. Every bit helps.

This will be our only EU trip due to hubs health and intense dislike of flying. We'll be gone a little over a month. I started in July and our business/first class flights are booked, as well as our cruise and hotels (Hilton). We also have 9 nights in a non-chain hotel.  Everything has been booked with points and miles. Now it's figuring out trains and things to see. We can afford to spend some money for some tours. It's just hard to escape a life of frugality even for one vacation and with CB cards.  Yakrot, I've also been fascinated with Pompeii. Thanks for the reality check that it's not always about saving.

And if you're going to want to do a bunch of cards in one day, you're best off starting in the morning (or after midnight(?) the night before)
Workflowy. You won't know what you're missing until you try it.

Not sure I've seen a definitive answer to this part.

You may need to clarify which time zone...

TA would refuse to cancel my trip to JFK within 24 hrs of booking.
Can someone please post a link to file the proper DoT complaint?

Does the TA's terms allow that 24 hour grace period (or specifically mention otherwise)?

When is the trip? If it's within 7 days of the flight, the DOT rule does NOT apply.

It is in three weeks.

Does it matter? Does the rule not apply so long has the routing includes the USA?

I've asked this question on different forums but have yet to get an answer. My husband and I retired this year. With current CC apps we can use 2015 tax income. What do we use for next year besides the 3 months my husband has worked in 2016? He's waiting until age 70 for SS, RMDs aren't required yet, dividend income is minimal as most of it is reinvested in Roths or IRAs. We have other money set aside to live on until the SS years start. We live below our means which affects how much we need to withdraw from our portfolio not how much we can withdraw. Feel free to PM me.
