Topic Wiki

This is the thread where you can ask any random question you have. Feel free to ask even the most basic questions that you otherwise might be embarrassed to ask. This is the thread for beginners, so veterans here will treat you nicely. Ask a beginner's Q in some other threads and no guarantee of that same treatment. ;)
People here want to help, so just have some patience, follow the tips below and hopefully someone will help you when they have a chance.

If you looking for a particular thread you once saw and can't find it, this is not the place to ask. Check out Help Me Find It and ask there.

How to ask a question in this thread:
Click the blue reply button at the top or bottom of the page, type your question, and click post!

Some helpful tips for eliciting answers from other members:
- Keep your question short and precise. No one wants to read a megillah.
- The more questions you ask in one post, the less likely any will be answered. People are willing to answer a question or two, but if you ask all the questions that apply to your particular issue, you're expecting to be spoonfed. Members don't like holding out the spoon, so ask accordingly.

It should get credited automatically, if it doesn't come soon you can call or send an SM.

It takes quite a few days, if not until then next statement, for the credit to go through.

As a cc I don't think there is.

Assuming he wanted a cc, what good is a prepaid card.

Sapphire Preferred, and was just approved for Sapphire Reserve.

What difference would this make? shouldn't all UR be considered the same?

Thanks

The UR is the same but having the Sapphire Reserve allows for unique redemption values.

This article has some good info:

And as Dan writes, I'd recommend switching your Sapphire Preferred for a Freedom Unlimited.

As per the below quote from the article it still might make sense to transfer to miles. I there another article that explains when/how it DOES make more sense?

"Increased cash back or miles:
The Sapphire Reserve allows you to use all your Chase points for 1.5 cents each per dollar towards travel. You can transfer points from any Chase card to Sapphire Reserve to make them more valuable.
Previously it’s always been worth transferring Chase points into real airline miles and hotel points.
But at about 1.5 cents per dollar it can start making sense to consider redeeming points directly for paid travel without transferring them into miles. That’s especially true as those fares, as opposed to traditional mileage tickets, also earn additional miles. You can still do much better with miles when hunting for last minute tickets or for premium class tickets, but for regular coach tickets this will be hard to beat.
"

That article was saying that it depends what you're using them for. There's not a clear way to define mileage value, or 'maximum usage'.

If you don't have a specific use in mind yet, then obviously leave them where they are and don't transfer them anywhere, so they retain their flexibility/liquidity.

If you do have a specific use in mind, please post and someone will try and help you determine how to maximize your usage.

Hi guys,

One of the things suggested to keep a higher credit score is paying off your bill (except a few dollars) before the statement prints. It would be so much easier if all statements from various cards printed the same day. I know this is a super noobish question but any help on how to change the days would be appreciated. I have Chase and Amex and Bank of America cards. TIA!

AFAIK you can only change due dates online, so for a noob (and pro's) would be easier to call than figuring this out.

Thanks for the responses. Amex changed my five cards to the date of my choice through chat. Now on to Chase...
