Topic Wiki

This is the thread where you can ask any random question you have. Feel free to ask even the most basic questions that you otherwise might be embarrassed to ask. This is the thread for beginners, so veterans here will treat you nicely. Ask a beginner's Q in some other threads and no guarantee of that same treatment. ;)
People here want to help, so just have some patience, follow the tips below and hopefully someone will help you when they have a chance.

If you looking for a particular thread you once saw and can't find it, this is not the place to ask. Check out Help Me Find It and ask there.

How to ask a question in this thread:
Click the blue reply button at the top or bottom of the page, type your question, and click post!

Some helpful tips for eliciting answers from other members:
- Keep your question short and precise. No one wants to read a megillah.
- The more questions you ask in one post, the less likely any will be answered. People are willing to answer a question or two, but if you ask all the questions that apply to your particular issue, you're expecting to be spoonfed. Members don't like holding out the spoon, so ask accordingly.

Hi, I've been a registered user for a few years but posting more actively in the past month.  I am not receiving email alerts when I receive DMs even though I have that setting enabled.  Any suggestions?

How do I un-follow a particular thread/topic. For example, I once responded to the Cancun Mexico master thread...but I don't want this thread to show up in the "Show new replies to your posts" section.

This question has been asked before and there's no good answer.
The only thing to do is "ignore topic", but then it won't show up in unread posts either.

Just “ignore topic”

This is what I see on the page, where is the "Ignore" option?

Thanks for the heads up regarding it also impacting the "unread posts" section...that's a shame

Click “unread posts” or “new replies”, click the blank box on the far right of the thread you’d like to ignore, then “ignore topic” on top or bottom of the page.

Apologies if I'm being dense but I am still not seeing what you're referring to. Here is what my screen looks like. There is no blank box for me to check on the right-hand side of the page. The only icon I have is something that takes me to the most recent comment in the thread.

Try this
profile > look and layout > "Show quick-moderation as - checkboxes" > "change profile"

Try this: profile > look and layout > "Show quick-moderation as - checkboxes" > "change profile"

There we go, that did the trick. Thanks very much for the help. Seems like this option should be enabled by default...we're having to go pretty deep into settings to enable this.

One small addition for anyone reading this post in the future:

click profile > hover cursor on "Modify Profile" > look and layout > "Show quick-moderation as - checkboxes" > "change profile"

This has been asked and answered so many times on the forum, I hope TimT bookmarked it so that he doesn't have to retype it every time. Just like AsherO surely bookmarked "If you don't post an asking price your post will be removed."  :D

That's a very clear sign that the default behavior does not make sense / should be changed then.

Applied for a BofA Amtrak card and got denied. My credit score is in the 750s and has had a solid record for the past 2 years since I started this game. Wondering if...
A. Does it make sense to call recon. My most recent application was CSP (approved!) in about May or June of last year.
B. Do I have a shot at the Citi Premier now that I have this recent inquiry or am I better off waiting it out?

TIA.

ETA: I think I'm currently 3/12 if that makes a difference for BofA

A. Almost always pays to call recon.  Know what you're going to say.  Prepare answers to what you think they might say.
- Ask why you've been denied.  Politely refute their reasoning.

Thanks! And what about the Citi app?

ETA: Rep #1 said that BofA doesn't do reconsideration without resubmitting the application. False?
Rep #2 said the same.
