Topic Wiki

This is the thread where you can ask any random question you have. Feel free to ask even the most basic questions that you otherwise might be embarrassed to ask. This is the thread for beginners, so veterans here will treat you nicely. Ask a beginner's Q in some other threads and no guarantee of that same treatment. ;)
People here want to help, so just have some patience, follow the tips below and hopefully someone will help you when they have a chance.

If you looking for a particular thread you once saw and can't find it, this is not the place to ask. Check out Help Me Find It and ask there.

How to ask a question in this thread:
Click the blue reply button at the top or bottom of the page, type your question, and click post!

Some helpful tips for eliciting answers from other members:
- Keep your question short and precise. No one wants to read a megillah.
- The more questions you ask in one post, the less likely any will be answered. People are willing to answer a question or two, but if you ask all the questions that apply to your particular issue, you're expecting to be spoonfed. Members don't like holding out the spoon, so ask accordingly.

With Amex you'd have chances, but no high hopes with Chase; "I apologize, that rep was misinformed and there's nothing I can do" ~ supervisor.

When applying for multiple cards from different banks that pull from the same credit bureau does it help at all to apply all at the same time so the banks don't see the new pulls coming from the other banks? Does that work?
No, they will see them.

Not within 24 hours. After that, it's either $40 cancellation fee OR the non-refunding of the taxes (usually this is the way to go).

IIRC for a domestic ticket are the taxes around $5?

Club Carlson is supposed to be really tough to get for churners.

Decided to go ahead and try applying anyways-got a 7-10 day message...  Just went back to review my credit report... I'm thinking now it was a dumb move on my part to even bother applying from my account and should have used a SSN that had less pulls.  I have 5 pulls from Chase since May 2011 from the bureau US Bank pulls from.    I didn't think that was too many but maybe US Bank will feel otherwise.

Oh well. We shall see what happens.

Yeah, I didn't think so either, though I just double checked ( not sure why I didn't realize this yesterday) but they ended up pulling from a different bureau this time- experian - which is where Amex pulls from. I have 9 inquiries.

Btw- Does Chase pull 2 bureaus for everyone... or just me?

Q- Why are some cards only reported to certain bureaus and others reported to all the bureaus? Even ones issues all from the same bank. (Amex for ex..)

And how does what is reported affect your credit report/ applications?

Why do you assume there are cards which are not reported to all CRA's?
They mix around with the account numbers so it may look for Citi I'm or similar services as different accounts.

It seemed that way to me when looking at my credit report. Some cards showed reported to all bureaus, others only 2 and some just 1.
Am I reading it wrong?

Where do you read your report?
By a company that provides reports from all 3 CRA's or the original report by the CRA?

Am also new to this miles business. Recently applied for chase BA, freedom w checking (unfortunately no longer exclusive) in Jan/13 and my first ever 2BM on dh’s name for SPG consumer and amex biz gold. Until then Citi AA gold and amex delta got all our personal spending, chase slate for monthly premiums and amex platinum for biz expenses. Dh also has an active unused citi plat and non-activated ink bold (w 50k offer), discover cash, amex blue cash and some more…and paying membership on all of them for years…he also received a pre-approved BoAm 5x cc offer recently…question is which card do we use for what expenses now that I’m into it, which cards to still sign up for on either name (good credit since 2007 for me and since 2000 for dh) and which to cancel due to fees?
Also when churning cards that have points on them, where do u transfer them to before opening new one and same for leveraging credit lines before new app?
Thanks in advance
