Topic Wiki

This is the thread where you can ask any random question you have. Feel free to ask even the most basic questions that you otherwise might be embarrassed to ask. This is the thread for beginners, so veterans here will treat you nicely. Ask a beginner's Q in some other threads and no guarantee of that same treatment. ;)
People here want to help, so just have some patience, follow the tips below and hopefully someone will help you when they have a chance.

If you looking for a particular thread you once saw and can't find it, this is not the place to ask. Check out Help Me Find It and ask there.

How to ask a question in this thread:
Click the blue reply button at the top or bottom of the page, type your question, and click post!

Some helpful tips for eliciting answers from other members:
- Keep your question short and precise. No one wants to read a megillah.
- The more questions you ask in one post, the less likely any will be answered. People are willing to answer a question or two, but if you ask all the questions that apply to your particular issue, you're expecting to be spoonfed. Members don't like holding out the spoon, so ask accordingly.

If it is available. Keep in mind, some airlines, flights, class of service are limited and not always offered. Always search on United's website first for availability and then if it is available then you can transfer your miles and book it.

I just signed up for the American Express SPG Credit Card, does anyone know how to get the 15,000 points from spending 5,000 pounds in the first 6 months? Can I buy goods and return them and still keep the points??
Difficult roads often lead to beautiful destinations....

Does UA offer companion tickets? Is it goods for “F” tickets?
Only on DDF does 24/6 mean 24/5/half/half

I fly Montreal-LA a couple of times a year and tickets are very expensive. What's the cheapest method of getting a milage ticket (to buy miles and get a ticket) I'm looking only for nonstop and as far as I know air Canada is th only one that has that.

Ps I'm totally new to this so excuse me if I did something wrong

I'll leave the mileage question for those more qualified than me, but have you looked into flying from PBG or BTV? It should be a lot cheaper, may be worth it if you do it often.

The only 'technical' problem would be SPG>AA when last name doesn't match.
Though Chase doesn't encourage transfers if its not to spouse's account, and they say they might terminate relationship if you do.

Thanks. And what about using someone else's milage account for my own ticket. Are there any airlines that won't let u do that or do the names on the ticket and milage account with which the ticket  was bought with have to match?

All airlines allow them if you didn't sell the miles.
Besides LAN which wants the passenger to be a relative of the account holder, and they used to require faxing in documents (but I think they no longer ask for that).
And SQ wants you to add the passenger as a redemption nominee (I think they have a limit how many nominees you can add, not sure about that).

So there's no real way to buy someone else's miles and use it to buy a ticket?
