Topic Wiki

This is the thread where you can ask any random question you have. Feel free to ask even the most basic questions that you otherwise might be embarrassed to ask. This is the thread for beginners, so veterans here will treat you nicely. Ask a beginner's Q in some other threads and no guarantee of that same treatment. ;)
People here want to help, so just have some patience, follow the tips below and hopefully someone will help you when they have a chance.

If you looking for a particular thread you once saw and can't find it, this is not the place to ask. Check out Help Me Find It and ask there.

How to ask a question in this thread:
Click the blue reply button at the top or bottom of the page, type your question, and click post!

Some helpful tips for eliciting answers from other members:
- Keep your question short and precise. No one wants to read a megillah.
- The more questions you ask in one post, the less likely any will be answered. People are willing to answer a question or two, but if you ask all the questions that apply to your particular issue, you're expecting to be spoonfed. Members don't like holding out the spoon, so ask accordingly.

I presently have 4 CCs (no Amex) & was recently (3 mo. ago) added on to my Dad's Amex as an AU. I want to apply for Starwood personal & business in the near future. Should I cancel the AU card before I apply or is it better that I'm an AU on an account w/ a long history?

I am not new to the miles and cards sign up bonuses but I went and got a bluebird card and went to staples and got 9 of the $200 gift cards and then went to Walmart in Long Island to load up the BB and the young cashier was a little confused which made me confused. He then called over a manager and they wouldn't load my BB card with the $1800 in gift cards. Not even $1000. Am I missing a piece of the puzzle? Something about a PIN number and or debit or credit. PLEASE HELP

SCOTT

I'm no pro, but it sounds like your problem is that you didn't set a pin. Bluebird can only be loaded with Debit cards (which are pin based transactions). In order to use your Visa/Mastercard GC you must set the PINs. Then return to Walmart and try loading them again (preferably without alerting the rep that its a GC).
There is also a $1000 a day limit to load to Bluebird-which resets at 1:00am, so go around then to load twice.
Please someone CMIIW.

I just booked my first award ticket, if someone can help me out I'd really appreciate it.
I booked a standard award ticket on United 1 way economy EWR to TLV for 75k miles.
If a saver award ticket opens up I would like to upgrade to business. How can I do that? Is there some kind of wait list I can be added to?

75k for economy OW? That's about $1200 for a one way ticket.

Thanx so much everyone. I know the ins and outs of the rental business, but I'm new to the miles game.
I need to travel to Israel from New York preferably on October 1st, but I can leave September 30th or October 2nd as well.
I have BA miles, SPG  points and United miles.

Yes.

Keep checking if business saver opens up (usually opens 3 hours before departure, if flight is not sold out) and then change it.

Would I get back the difference in mileage 15k? Is there a change fee?

Yes and yes. Though you can talk your way out of the fee pretty easily IME.

I have 30,000 Amex Delta points. I would like to close the card so I don't have to pay fee. Is there any other program I could transfer the Delta points to so I don't lose them?
