Topic Wiki

This is the thread where you can ask any random question you have. Feel free to ask even the most basic questions that you otherwise might be embarrassed to ask. This is the thread for beginners, so veterans here will treat you nicely. Ask a beginner's Q in some other threads and no guarantee of that same treatment. ;)
People here want to help, so just have some patience, follow the tips below and hopefully someone will help you when they have a chance.

If you looking for a particular thread you once saw and can't find it, this is not the place to ask. Check out Help Me Find It and ask there.

How to ask a question in this thread:
Click the blue reply button at the top or bottom of the page, type your question, and click post!

Some helpful tips for eliciting answers from other members:
- Keep your question short and precise. No one wants to read a megillah.
- The more questions you ask in one post, the less likely any will be answered. People are willing to answer a question or two, but if you ask all the questions that apply to your particular issue, you're expecting to be spoonfed. Members don't like holding out the spoon, so ask accordingly.

Is there a timeframe (24 hrs?) you can cancel an UA award ticket with no penalty?
Only on DDF does 24/6 mean 24/5/half/half

I need to book 2 business class tickets from USA to Europe with multiple less than 24 hour layovers in Europe. I only have enough miles for one ticket currently. I want to book one ticket before the deval to lock in at least one Ticket. I plan to book a ticket operated by united only, as it will reduce the amount of miles required for the second ticket after the devaluation. My question is, as united does not operate flights within Europe, will the ticket issued after the deval be charged the amount of miles for a partner ticket (140,000)? How will the deval change the free layovers within 24 hours on a partner airline?

Hey, thanks for this thread for the beginners. Great help! (trying to figure the forums).

Quick question.(Im sure it was discussed) Ive had my united explorer card for about 6 months. Got all the miles and used them as well.  Would it be the right thing to close that card, wait a bit (how long) and re-apply? And mabye the same for british airways card?

Thanks!!

will amazon payments count as a direct deposit for a citibank account?
What about a transfer/bill pay from bluebird?
Workflowy. You won't know what you're missing until you try it.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to hit a spend threshold without using Amazon Payments?

Bluebird?

I meant something a little more straightforward if there are other opportunities.

This is the million dollar question...

Most people will also not want to divulge their secrets (if they have one) to manufactured spend.

You can always try to buy and return something. Find a store that will put the money back on your debit card.(nordstrom)

Depends what exactly your goal is. You could close the United card right away so that you could reopen it again shortly (people suggest waiting 30 days- the BA card you have to wait 12 months for IIRC), but if you want to get other Chase cards as well, you can use it as leverage to get a new card by offering to move the CL/close it, thus allowing you to accomplish two goals (getting another card, and enabling yourself to churn the UA card soon). Either way, if you decide to close make sure to transfer the CL to existing cards.
