Topic Wiki

This is the thread where you can ask any random question you have. Feel free to ask even the most basic questions that you otherwise might be embarrassed to ask. This is the thread for beginners, so veterans here will treat you nicely. Ask a beginner's Q in some other threads and no guarantee of that same treatment. ;)
People here want to help, so just have some patience, follow the tips below and hopefully someone will help you when they have a chance.

If you looking for a particular thread you once saw and can't find it, this is not the place to ask. Check out Help Me Find It and ask there.

How to ask a question in this thread:
Click the blue reply button at the top or bottom of the page, type your question, and click post!

Some helpful tips for eliciting answers from other members:
- Keep your question short and precise. No one wants to read a megillah.
- The more questions you ask in one post, the less likely any will be answered. People are willing to answer a question or two, but if you ask all the questions that apply to your particular issue, you're expecting to be spoonfed. Members don't like holding out the spoon, so ask accordingly.

Ok. Ty.  I wasn't sure if that meant I'd be racking up a point against me by reporting a complaint against myself!

Is there a moderator online at all times?  How can I tell who it is?

On top of the page "profile" - gets your own page
On side bar "show ignore option"

Then on top of page 'show new replies to your posts"
you get a list.
On the right side are boxes to check off
 on top " ignore topics"

How do you get the boxes to show up?  Does a thread need to be listed on profile page?  If so, how do you get it there?

It's already somewhere in the forums that I was happy to learn from.  I just had to remind myself where it is.

It's not giving me the option to ignore topics.

I am planning a cruise for August and I have not traveled in many many years. Can someone please direct me with travel insurance for this trip? First, where would I look on DDF for general travel insurance? When I did a search for travel insurance it gave me specific things like united club card travel insurance or amex. I am going to pay for this trip with the new A"A executive card. They have free travel insurance but only up to $1500. The cruise is 10K and I'm using A"A miles for F/C travel to Vancoover and from San Fran. Staying in SF for 3 days after 12 night alaska cruise. What companies are best to work with for the insurance? The cruise line's insurance is very high (11.5%) The little that I did read, it should cost about 5-7% of price of trip.
Please help!

Miles is a misnomer. It's basically cashback that you redeem as a statement credit for money spent on travel at a rate of 1 cent per point. For example, if you spent $200 on a flight, and you have 10k Arrival points, you can redeem them for a $100 statement credit towards that $200.

I think to sell them you would use your card to book travel for someone else.  Then redeem your points to pay off the charge and your friend would pay you, too.

If I buy a GC to a restaurant next month on my chase freedom, I am essentially locking in 5 points per dollar?

If the store is coded as a restaurant, yes.
