Topic Wiki

This is the thread where you can ask any random question you have. Feel free to ask even the most basic questions that you otherwise might be embarrassed to ask. This is the thread for beginners, so veterans here will treat you nicely. Ask a beginner's Q in some other threads and no guarantee of that same treatment. ;)
People here want to help, so just have some patience, follow the tips below and hopefully someone will help you when they have a chance.

If you looking for a particular thread you once saw and can't find it, this is not the place to ask. Check out Help Me Find It and ask there.

How to ask a question in this thread:
Click the blue reply button at the top or bottom of the page, type your question, and click post!

Some helpful tips for eliciting answers from other members:
- Keep your question short and precise. No one wants to read a megillah.
- The more questions you ask in one post, the less likely any will be answered. People are willing to answer a question or two, but if you ask all the questions that apply to your particular issue, you're expecting to be spoonfed. Members don't like holding out the spoon, so ask accordingly.

What is the minimum time one should allow for a layover for international travel? For instance, a Virgin rep said while she technically could book me on a flight allowing for a 45 minute layover in LHR, there is no way I'll make the flight. Is there a place I can find average times necessary?
In general at least an hour.

each airport has their own policy for the minimum layover.
I once had a 35 min layover in Europe. I don't remember where

It probably also depends on the airport.
Years ago I came late to a flight in Cleveland.  With almost half an hour to the flight, I begged to be allowed to check in.  She refused, but put me on a later flight.
When I actually went out to the gate, I realized that half an hour was barely enough time.  I needed to go to terminal D.  Through half of terminal C and then down - across - up (under the runway) and through a long hallway to even get to D1.  With kids and security - she wasn't being mean, she was being realistic.

He mentioned LHR I would guess he needs "at least"  90 minutes

Thanks all. Figured as much. Now hopefully my sister can cancel/change her flight for free. LHR especially, may be the most I have walked in any airport. You have to do a 5k run just to take a leak.

Still not very clear, but I don't think there is a free version of the US card. That being said, you can try to transfer the credit line (CL) to the Lufthansa (LH) card before closing the US, but I don't know if they will let you. Nonetheless, people have closed Barclays cards, lost the CL and then reapplied just days later and got approved. So, I think just closing the card is fine. But, of course, it could be different for every person - aka YMMV (your mileage may vary).

You can downgrade your USAir card to no AF arrival or a BC rewards card.

I see people writing that they had 1 pull or 2 pulls etc.

How can I know how many pulls I had in the last few days?

Is there already a thread about this?

By annualcreditreport.com you have to pay. Is there any free way?

Just a thought. You're entitled to 1 free report a year from each credit bureau.  You may want to stagger which report you get, so you can check your report free 3X/ yr.  ie TU- now, Eq -march, Ex- july.

Different people do different things. There used to be a service by Citibank (Identity Monitor), but they don't accept new members anymore.
I personally am taking advantage of Target's offer earlier in the year to provide credit monitoring for free for a year (as a response to their data breach).
Another idea (for cheap but not free): check out the discussion from the Chase Reconsideration thread: http://forums.dansdeals.com/index.php?topic=8398.msg909803#msg909803
