The link above refers to a thread on FlyerTalk where our lovely Damaxer91 has taken up the initiative to confront LY CEO Eliezer Shkedi with the
harsh realities. While there  might still be people around who are willing to pay more for a lesser service simply because it is Israel, less and less people are willing to do it.

I understand that LY's sole purpose of being is to generate profit, but LY's way of thinking (like many Israeli corporations) is only short-term.
People want more and more AVOD as well as decent seats and a proper FFP.

EL AL, it's not just an airline. It's ISRAEL!!!!! The slogan of LY could not have represented its current management in a more accurate way, unfortunately.

Gut voch to all of you!

I had the misfortune of reading this weeks Yated, basically they found a frum (rabbi) TA who complained about the pending EU-Israel Open Skies agreement, saying Elal is at a competitive disadvantage since no alliance will add them.
The same argument was made by LY CEO in globes, and posted here IIRC.

Loved this comment from FT
He's right that they're the only ones on that route with F seats like that. They're the only one on the planet with F seats like that!

Also on FT:
Shimon Peres flys AC as Elal too expensive

If LY is at a competitive disadvantage, then they need to restructure their company in order to become competitive. A proof again of the failure of Israeli socialism. May the best and most competitive airlines win.

Of course if u charge more for a lesser product you're in a "competitive disadvantage'.

while I agree to all the above
still bear in mind that LY is usually much cheaper then other airlines flying to and from NY.
which although doesn't mean they shouldn't improve on other services like their FFP etc.

Only in direct business class.
In coach, rarely when compared to DL/UA/US.

I spoke to a travel agent and he told me that El Al just cut their comission at 30%....... So of course the fares will be cheaper... But lets see if thre agents are going to charge a premium to book.

If their commissions were comparable pre-slash, then it sounds like a dumb move. TA's are just going to book people on UA/DL and not deal with LY.

Let's not forget that qiute some people would fly elal no matter what, be it for FF, zionist or security reasons.

I do find them to have a very not reasonable sales techniques.
Eg: I used to fly quite often to israel, and I meet some other people that did the same, with quite a few flying twice per month, while others weekly.
I informed about passes etc, so they have those prepaid tickets (max 36) which work out about 150% of what usually pay.
I spoke with some of those frequent travellers and were ready to prepay for trips (with our names fixed on it, so that we couldn't resell, and proposed to elal to buy 500-1000 tickets upfront, to be used, say within a year.
Let's not forget that @ least half the flight were tachless not flown with them until then, but rather with alternative airlines, also flying direct.
They were not interested, so got higher up, and still didn't help, so I just dropped the idea.

Some airlines have run such (or similar) promotions, e.g. JetBlue BluePass.

Air canada has passes.

Who cares, you come with a proposal, where someone would pay them $500k they should show some interest at least.

ive never flown f with them but i have flown biz and coach numerous times and have yet to experience the "horror" stories others have experienced. compared to other airlines ive flown (http://forums.dansdeals.com/index.php?topic=11154.msg211369#msg211369) id rate them in the top third for service. especially for what they have to deal with
the others passenegers on elal though...

For kosher food, theres nothing to even talk about, they are miles ahead.
As one of the things that people rate an airline for, LY is definitely up there for the frum traveller.
