+1 Although i have found sometimes LY being cheaper then ua delta etc. or if flying from the UK they are always cheaper then BA.
But i learned my lesson the hard way and i would never ever fly elal again. they are the worst airline in the industry (incl ryanair easy jet and spirit etc) i would pay $300 more to fly with anyone else and would rather stop over anywhere not to fly with them

so many blanket statements...
what was this horrible thing they did to you?

I was once on a flight ewr-tlv the FA knew Yiddish and was (rightfully) screaming (literally) at a few chassidim to "zetzigavek"
(HelpMe - translation: verb zets-ih-ga-vek to sit down :) )
In actuality it's not one word but a combination of the words zetz, zich, avek

I will give u one of my stories (u seem very adamant) I flew with my wife and booked tickets for 2 they gave us seats 3 rows apart I realized already on the boarding pass so the desk agent told me they will change it on board for me.
as we boarded I asked the fa politely if she could help me the first response she gave me was every charedi doesn't want to sit next to a woman and u want to change a seat to sit next to a woman.
I was trying to explain that this is my wife but to no avail I had to sit through the flight 3 rows separated
I could go on for hours about the ordeal but would rather stop here
btw to top it all off they lost my luggage too

I spoke to a travel agent and he told me that El Al just cut their comission at 30%....... So of course the fares will be cheaper... But lets see if thre agents are going to charge a premium to book.
THEY MOST DEFENITLY SHOULD/WILL CHARGE A SERVICE FEE FOR THEIR SERVICES  OTHERWISE THEYD BE ELEGIBLE FOR TOMCHEI SHABBOS

it happens to everyone on all airlines that you might be seated away from your spouse. if they cant accomodate you for whatever reason, tough luck. you shouldve booked your seats in advance
she happened to say a line which i kinda find funny

If a passenger was told at the gate that they should ask a FA on board to accommodate a switch, you'd expect more than a snide comeback. If indeed there was a reason why the FA could not even attempt to facilitate a change of seat, that reason is the only words that need to come out of their mouth.

+1

I flew a low cost where you pay to get any seat.

the rest afterwards just runs to get whatever seat he can grab.

I was with small children, so I didn't stand a chance.

I asked once all where seated (I stayed at the entrance of the plane), if they could seat us together, and they moved people around to put us 4 together.

Similar scenario on the way back.

If it wasn't me I would have found that funny too but the hate and attitude towards customers is something I have never experienced with any other airline

I have. Don't ask me for stories, because I can't remember any particular one. All I know is that they didn't get their reputation for nothing.

I'm assuming Moish means Jews are more critical.

While I have had nice elal flights, some were quite odd. TLV-ZRH with nothing but water and sleeping crew members... C'mon.

Theirl ost luggage and general compensation policies are out of the line, which is one of the reasons no alliance will take them.

I personally love their call center, as hold times are usually short and they are informed and to the point (I speak Hebrew). Luckily I never tried to book an award on AA though.

They also need to have a real FFP, where u can earn and redeem on other airlines, and status is recgonized mutually. Not being in an alliance is no excuse - just look at Alsaka.
