Speeding ticket in Quebec
« on: May 07, 2012, 11:15:46 AM »
I went on Motzei Shabbas to a levaya of a my grandfather which was held at 9:00 AM in Montreal, Quebec.
He passed away 3:00 at night, so I only had 6 hours to make the way from Brooklyn to Montreal.
At 3:15, I left, having left only 5.45 to get there, which meant speeding on 80 mph the whole way, or nothing.
I didn't have a choice but to tighten the seatbelt, and...
The whole way went smooth, but in Canada 5 minutes before I reached the destination, I was pulled by a cop, and got a whooping $250 ticket. I don't actually care too much about the sum, rather about the 3 points which are transferred to NY, according to reports.
Would like to know, if anybody has experience getting Quebec points removed, or not transferred to NY.

Thanks in advance

PS, and no AA ticket were not available via BA, that's what I checked from 3:00 to 3:15 at night.

You should have got a BA ticket for later in the day and called AA to same day change it.

Just make sure you pay it, I know people who were arrested at the border over things smaller than this.

For same day change u don't need award availability on AA. $75 fee and you're on any open seat.
How do you book the first seat to then make the change?

(See updated post above)
Say theres a seat at 7pm available for award (apparently there wasn't, although thats somewhat unusual for NYC>YUL), you can book and call AA to SDC into any available seat within 24 hours. The $75 fee is waived for some elite pax.

Considering the ticket, would have been worth it to use UA miles...

Considering the ticket, would have been worth it to use UA miles...
United only had 7:45, which means arrival at 8:50, and being in not before 9:30, which I ended up being way before (arrived 9:15), but without the ticket, I would be there by 9:00.

Also, UA RT would be 20K + $58 taxes + $75 fee + car service 4 ways, which would be total of over $500 in value. I paid like $350 including everything.
Also, this way allowed me to bring along my 4 siblings, which would have to book each a ticket using UA.

Taking these factors into calculation, I didn't book UA, although I was quite prepared for the worst...

My dad got a ticket there many years ago, Im pretty sure he didn't get any points off.
But did they actually speak english?
Yes, they did.

I have heard that from several people, but by law they are required to transfer. Looking for a way to be sure it doesn't happen.

You can always get a license from a state that doesn't have a point system.

Don't I need to have an address there?
And which states are those?

All Jews are welcome in the chabad house.
Some don't require proof of address.
Some will mail license to supposed address, so need to find somone.
LA doesn't have a point system, doesn't require a proof of address, and prints the license as u wait ($15).
Line only takes a few minutes in MSY.
Hard to get award into there though.
Amazing place to see if u can make it there.

PAY :I am from the UK, and got a speeding ticket(135$) in Montreal a year ago, i ignored it ,they kept sending me mail , interest and fines 500$, then i got a seizure order of all property in Canada and suspension to drive in Canada.
I was there last week and appealed in court and the judge let me off the extras because i pleaded guilty to the ticket and proved  i was not in Canada the whole year. He made me pay the court the original ticket and let me drive again.
The next step i was told if i would have not turned my self in would have been an arrest warrant.
Was your grandfather MR. Paneth?

LA only records DUI.

Arizon license is valid for 60 years, I met a guy in PHX who has 40 people 'living' in his house.
