My recollection from the piece they published was that the first sink has no soap which makes problems and the soap only comes in the second sink.
The head of the crc rabbi fishbane, said in a shiur that starbucks is extremely sanitary but they have no uniform procedures and their practices  vary from store to store.

There was a serises of articles on COLlive a while back...

That article states as follows:

Quote
Q: How about non-dairy (coffee or tea) cold drinks that are made for you on the spot?
A: Three conditions should be met. 1. Only kosher ingredients are used (they are usually flavored) 2. New or disposable cup 3. That it's not first heated or boiled in an unforseen way.

Anyone here know how SB prepares their (non-bottled) iced teas? I'm specifically asking regarding the 3rd condition mentioned in my quote.

Many people including Rav Belsky shlit"a are quoted as saying you can buy black coffee at a gas station.  What makes starbucks different is that they have kli rishons from treif being washed in hot water together with the coffee stuff.  Other treif restaurants are probably the same problem gas stations even if they sell hot dogs apparently wash things out differently - don't have sophisticated industrial 3 part sinks.

Why would you assume people know what they're doing?  You sound like comment #46 here
If you don't care why would you comment?

There is deff makom lhakel, as R Elyashiv paskens that professional establishments are muchzak to wash their dishes well. The washing of the dishes shouldn't be an issue if it's being used for cold, question is what are the utensils that touch the iced coffee used for between being washed and used for your ice coffee. Please don't accept this as psak. Contact your LOR

I'm asking if there's any heat involved in the preparation of the "tea essence" starbucks uses for their iced teas.

The boxes I saw had an OU on them.

Also, with regard to the old discussion, i know this is a bit dated, but if you read between the lines of the CRC research there are more products that are permissible than they are "recommending".

I agree, the only drink they do well is the ice tea. I think they call it tazo tea. Grean tea and passion fruit. Just remember not to add any lemonade as it's not kosher, and ask for lite ice so you get a full cup of tea instead of 50% tea and rest is ice. U might need to add some splenda to sweeten it

I think most of their K cups and bags of ground coffee have an OU on them. the products themselves are fine its just the coffee shops sell treif and wash all the utensils together so basically if you find a way to make sure they use things that werent washed with other utensils (disposable cups etc.) then it should be fine
