Starwood or Saphire Preferred
« on: May 09, 2012, 11:01:19 AM »
I am booking a flight, car and hotel and am trying to confirm which card I should primarily use. All are being booked on a CC and not using points
I believe that the car rental is covered under Sapphire since its a visa and as long as I decline any insurance from rental agency I get this coverage for free as opposed to Amex which charges... Correct?
Chase also seems to offer different options for flight cancellation, lost luggage, delays etc. Will my starwood offer anything  better?
My hotel is not a Starwoods... Any benifit to using the Amex card for reservation?

Dan

If I booked a car rental with my Sapphire Preferred through Priceline, will I still get coverage? Or do I have to do it directly through the rental agency?

It's a question with similar content to yours, how is it killing your thread? Better to consolidate threads with like minded questions than start a new thread for every question.

rent the car on amex and when you return ask them to pay with a different card, this way your $25 amex premium insurance charge goes back on your card

Sapphire won't cover as primary CDW, Amex premier will.

OTOH if you don't have a different insurance, the sapphire will cover as primary.

Im gonnna apologize, but as a novice I honestly dont know what you guys are talking about. It took me a few minutes to figure out what CDW is!
I spoke to Chase and they told me I could have renters insurance for free is that correct? If so, why pay Amex?
@Dan why do you keep telling me to sign up for UA?

Most credit cards offer secondary CDW, you first must file a claim with your own insurance which will make your rates go up.
The UA cards offers primary CDW.
AMEX also offers primary CDW, but they charge $20-$25 extra per rental for that feature.
