Did you pay with a CC? Did you check if that CC offers return protection?

If it's within 90 days you should have return protection (depending on which Amex card it was). Call Amex, maybe you can get a full refund.

You file  claim with them and they ask you for the receipt etc. Once your claim is pproved, they (sometimes) ask you to return the item, then they refund you.
