@Name Changed: Is this the long-awaited replacement for the Z11/12/21? Can we please get a mini-review/comparison to the aforementioned Z models?
PMD: Not for me :P

I would probably prefer pay double for a bigger Sony.

1. There's no indication they're launching such a model anytime soon (the Samsung is 3.5 Lbs. which is very light for 15").
2. Even if they do launch such a model, it might not match up as far as specs etc. go.
3. The Sony brand isn't worth it, trust me. (I'm saying that even though I'm very happy with my Sony Z Ka"h, I had an issue while under warranty and there was noone to talk to).

PMD: Not for me :P

I am not very familiar with the Z models, so I cant give much of a mini-review/comparison

I don't think you'll find a Sony comparable to that Samsung, and if you do it'll cost double or triple IMHO.
+1 Well said

Power media dock where they stuck the replaceable battery, GPU and DVD drive.
I prefer to have all those built-in as the Z11 and Z12 had.

Agree 1000%.
Such a shame, the Z11/12 truly are everything one can ask for in a laptop form factor and now there's not one manufacturer making a similar model.

@AsherO, I agree with you. I don't need a pc now, so for the time being I prefer waiting. Budget is a complicated topic which involves my work, so let's not go into that.

At the end of the day, the top pc in the market will have a premium, as theres no competition, so even if it's only a little bit better than the second best, I think there's quite a large market segment that wants the best possible regardless of price. This is all the more true when there no competitor that comes close to the specs.

Now, I'm not saying budget isn't a concern, that's the reason I didn't buy one yet. But, the premium might be worthwhile for me under the circumstances.

My issue is that not a single one of these is something that I see to buy better than the MBA. I know the pro's say it's a joke, but other than lack of optical drive (I never have enough time between booking and flying to download movies, but I can tell u the fastest wifi spot in quite a few lounges) it is really excellent. I don't do Photoshop, but now Im thinking of doing that a little. If offered to trade in my MBA for any of theses, I wouldn't take it. So it's not so appealing to me, I prefer to spend the money on a fancy SLR. The problem is that I need a specific program that is not compatible with Mac.

This may sound out of left field, but as a data recovery specialist I strongly advise against any ssd drives - unless you dont have anything of value on the computer or the laptop is backed up constantly!

I can't hold myself back from arguing...

The failure rate of SSD drives is so much lower than standarf drives, that with a occasional backup anyone should be fine.

Its a very drastic or paranoid thing to say to not use SSD drives.

I actually would recommend a SSD drive, as typically most peoples files aren't that valuable to pay $700-$2000 on recovery, and typically sensitive files are backed up

It seems like eilu vaeilu devri elokim chaim, SSD is less likely to fail, but harder to recover. I happen to agree with NC that as a consumer I prefer something more durable, I don't have any files I care about losing.

Besides more durable its faster.

I am recommending for a consumer. DH Data Recovery is coming from a business point of view which I do agree to for a business laptop...

As someone in the field of data recovery I will explain some importnat details about ssd that arent known to most ppl. Although you probably having seen this yet because its still new technology and isn't being used as much I've gotten some of them and they are disastrous.
#1 ssd has a limited amount of read and writes per drives before they fail completely - if you are interested in more details I can explain this in depth. The ssd manufacturers are actually aware of this and have implemented a part of the drive thats responsible for looking at sectors that havent been used as much and write data there. However the drive will fail after that number of read and writes and the nand chips will actually start losing sectors. I have recieved a few ssd drive that were almost entirely empty - the sectors literally dissapear!
#2 whereas regular hard drive can fail by having multiple bad sectors (not talking about hard drive that fall - in that respect ssd is way superior!) ssd drives are made up by multiple banks of nands. the data is distributed among them randomly - meanin 1 photo isnt on 1 nand its distributed in bits and pieces among multiple chips! so if one dies you are looking at reconstructing a very complex array! (it makes raid 5 look like a cakewalk)
#3 hard drives have been around for a whiule and they have cewrtain industry standards that have been implemented by the hard drive association - ssd has no industry compliance standards and no smart detection (smart is included in most hard drive its supposed to work as a early warning that the drive is failing) and they can use any cheap parts they want. The reason we arent seeing such tremendous failure rates is because the read and write limits will be coming up soon.
and by the way I can recover most drives for under $750 - ssd drive very often can't be recovered.
I can keep going if you want...

All this is true, but the avg guy with a laptop will backup his pc every 3 mos. on an external drive, if his comp gets fried no ones gonna go nuts over 3 mos. of pics. we'll take the risk.

But the SSD Drive is typically found in Ultra Books and they aren't the typical home laptop, used more for travel and potability...

@name changed - you may be right about what ppl are saving on ultraportable laptops - my point is just making ppl aware that although you think ssd is safer - its only stable while it lasts - so make sure to have a real time backup in place if you have any important data.

and btw - although pictures aren't worth as much when it comes to paying for a recovery, they are worth as much when you are thinkimng in advance. so choose wisely and always back up regardless!
