Yes. Even changing the flight on the same airline incur the fee. As always, with a stupid enough agent the rules can vary.

If I have an award ticket and for some reason downgrade to coach from biz prior to 30 days is there a penalty to reinstate the difference in miles? Right now I have coach booked and want to upgrade but may need to change it back.

I am trying to change the connection city on an intl award ticket with United more than 21 days in advance and keep on getting told that I must pay a 75 dollar change fee. I am assuming that is false?

That must be the only way. They are making me crazy as I am flying from EWR to ASU and then returning MAO to OGG with a 8 month stopover in EWR (!!) and the flight from MAO to EWR connects in PTY then SJU and I want to switch it to PTY- POS - EWR and they are making me nuts. Someone even told me that the ticket is invalid because I cannot go to OGG after EWR and they are doing me a favor and honoring it but that is it no changes.

It is the same airlines.

HUCA, ask for a manager.

My ticket was notated not to allow any changes as it is technically 20,000 miles short of the requirements per ticket, and they therefore did not want to reissue it so I HUCA'd about 8 times yesterday and finally got my change. Each call was a good 45 minutes to an hour.

Can I still use the trick to avoid the $75 close-in fee? Book for a latter time and then change to th correct date?
