Any updated reports of being a United UA and getting free baggage?

(w/ ticket not charged to the CC)

Primary cardholder should get it automatically regardless of payment method.

Then say so...
With AUs you likely need to pay with the cc as you will need to get an override and they will likely check the last digits.

Looking to book a United flight LAX to YYZ. Some clueless rep told me that all direct flights are operated by Air Canada so the first bag won't be free with a United card as its not a United flight.

Came here to ask the experts if she is wrong.

baggage allowances follow the operating carrier's rules, so she would be correct.

If you got the reps info maybe you can get put up a fight but in general
baggage allowances follow the operating carrier's rules, so she would be correct.

That's a bummer.

I called Chase United and they said well Canada is international so the first bag is free. Sounded like hogwash. Called United they said well its an Air Canada flight so you need to ask them how much luggage is but whatever they charge you won't get your first bag free because of your United card. Called back the next United rep says, it's 25 but waived if you have the card. I said but isn't this ab Air Canada flight? She says we check you in and we give the first bag free

i just want to verify again- i booked tickets using a different card (this is before i knew that my husband was approved for the united card), when we fly, he just needs to show his card and we'll get the free baggage? also, how do i add his united mileage number to the itinerary?

Same question - If I have a United Mileage Plus card and pay the taxes for 3 award tickets with a different credit card, will I still get a free checked bag per person? Or do I have to use the United card to pay the taxes? The website says I need to use the card, but I don't remember that being the case. Please let me know, would like to book tickets before Rosh Hashana, but don't have my United card on me.

Should be fine if your UA account # is linked to the reservation.

Oversized Baggage on United
« Reply #38 on: October 02, 2013, 12:04:41 PM »
My Grandmother is flying EWR - TLV roundtrip and would like to take a large picture frame with her. Does anyone know if they would accept it as a normal checked bag? It will be wrapped in a box with the dimensions of 30x36 inches. TIA

(I just spoke with a CSR at United and she said it would be accepted as a regular checked bag can anyone confirm or HUCA?)

Sure, as long as the dimensions fall within the allotted amount for checked luggage she should be fine.
