BBQ Grill recommendation
« on: May 15, 2012, 04:32:32 PM »
Hi,
Any recommendations on a grill to buy?  I need a grill that can fit at least 6 burgers, 6 dogs, a rib steak or two and vegetables like corn, sliced pepper and sliced zucchini.  Not sure if that would be a medium size grill or large.

Thanks

I know there was a thread of someone looking for a clearance grill. Couldn't find it and came up with this one.

http://m.sears.com/productdetails.do?partNumber=07116171000P&sid=IAx20050830x000545

Seems like a super deal

Good deal doesn't always mean "lowest price."

Don't be "cheap," be "frugal."

There's a difference.

I am well aware. But if you are looking for something cheap and paying $400-$500 for a weber is not in the budget right now, this is an excellent option.

I had many of the cheap $99 grills (char-broil and others) for years. They never were any good, but I just didn't know any better. They did not retain any heat, never got really hot, and rusted through in just a few years.

Then my wife won a Weber Genesis in a chinese auction. I couldn't understand why the retail price was $700. Who would pay that much for a grill, and why? But I shlepped it home anyway. Boy was it heavy. Know why? Because it is all heavy cast iron and steel. It can get very hot and it keeps the heat inside. Once I used it and experienced (and tasted) the difference, I understood. Not only does it grill better, but I am expecting it to last for many many more years.

I can vouch that there is just no comparison between a heavy-weight brand-name (it is possible that Weber is not the only one,) and a light-weight cheap grill.

Now I am so spoiled, I am actually shopping around for a rotisserie attachment for my Weber!

I have a Char Broil 4 Burner $500+
Tru Inferred Burner
Absolutely incredible

Key item is you could throw wood chips right into it.

Don't get me wrong - I would still never spend $700 or even close to it on a Weber grill. I would just do without it, knowing what I was missing. Besides, I can't afford that.

If you can afford it, and definitely if you can find a great deal on one, then go for it.

Do flavored wood chips need a hechsher?

If you plan on giving it serious usage, think of it as a kitchen appliance. You can pick up an oven in sears for $149 but most people realize that it's an investment and spend many multiples of that.

Natural wood isn't flavored
its just that type of wood.

Gas vs charcoal?

I have a small baby q i can use for a quick hot dog, but considering a charcoal for the much higher heat.  Clean up shouldn't be a big deal i imagine...

Also, wondering if anyone has https://abcbarbecue.com/?afmc=amazingribs
leaning overall to the weber Kettle premium 22 - http://amazingribs.com/bbq_equipment_reviews_ratings/grill/weber-original-kettle-premium-22-charcoal-grill

thoughts?
