Any outstanding hotels here?
I looked at the Hyatt in Oahu and it didn't look too great to me

Everything is in Waikiki, which is basically a big urban city with better weather.

Jerusalem Kosher Deli near Waikiki:

Enjoyed a great lunch there today. Saved 5% by mentioning dansdeals. Was just about all we did in HNL aside from visiting a beach in Waikiki. An AAdmirals club AAngel miraculously was able to move us on to a direct flight instead of a layover in LAX getting us to our final destination only an hour later while giving us 4 hours to check out HNL

Has anyone stayed at the Ala Moana hotel (where the Chabad is located) for Shabbos? I am trying to decide if I should stay there or find another hotel that's in walking distance.

Yeah, I was there a few months ago. Nothing special, basic rooms are very small. I used AA points 23,300 $0 taxes for 2 nights which was available at the time. I'm not sure what else is nearby, its right in middle of the city so you definitely can't walk from the hotels in Waikiki.

I stayed in a hotel around the corner from the Chabad House which was nice. There is a Hilton close by if you preferred that.

Beware that many Waikiki hotels have staircases with motion-activated lights.
Find out before you go for shabbos.

The Ala Moana also has motion activated lights in part of the stairwells.

Not quite sure, with us the security guard guided us up, so he went in front of us, but going down I only noticed that it went on once, the rest of the times it was on already. Maybe the rabbi there knows more about it.

So how do people stay there?

I ended up staying there, the Chabad Rabbi there stays in the hotel every Shabbat with his family, they have Security walk in front of them on the way up, and have their maintenance guy pick them up in the morning. They told him which room we were in and he came to pick us up in the morning as well.

Attached are some pics of the view from my room (looks like a city!) lol

I have a few more pics if you wanna see them.
