Thoughts on must do stuff during a stopover on way home?

Worth to stay overnight for the above?

Currently, plan is to arrive @ 12pm & leave @ 7pm giving me enough time to do USS Arizona + Lappert's/Oahu Kosher for quick bite, but am flexible.

I actually really like Oahu; there's tons to do. Get/borrow the Oahu Revealed book/app to see what interests you.  I've spent probably a couple weeks on Oahu, and could easily find another week's worth of stuff  to do, but I'm weird like that.

Lappert's is milchig, doesn't have real food, and Oahu Kosher is pretty much all fleishig.  Oahu Kosher needs to be delivered.  Also: traffic is a real thing on Oahu.  Airport to Waikiki when you are arriving is no joke, unless COVID-19 changes that.

+1

Our favorites:
Polynesian Cultural Center
Dole Plantation maze (other activities there were only OK)
Rent mopeds and ride up to Diamond Head for the crater hike

If you are coming from Waikiki area you can easily do Dole in the morning and PCC at noon as soon as they open.

i dont doubt there's lots to do, but since traveling from TBI we're really only looking for must do activities as opposed to spending a few days touring. it's why i assumed pearl harbor, as most other items i read about in TR seem similar to whats available on TBI.

how long do u think i need at pearl harbor/uss arizona?

planned on getting food for trip home and delivered by uber to airport.

when originally looked into PCC and Dole it didn't seem worthwhile, but with your recommendation i will revisit.

want to do mopeds but since travelling with kids, is not practical as not have motorcycle license. while the coupe model looks like ago-kart.

assuming you've been there, how much time do think we need at pearl harbor/uss arizona?

Assuming you can get timed tickets in advance so you know exactly when the Arizona tour is, figure 2-2.5 hours. I think the boat ride to the memorial is 45 mins round trip plus a 20 minute movie beforehand. You can do the museum before or after. I recommend paying for the self guided audio tour which makes the museum much more interesting.

We did not do the extra activities there like the Missouri or the submarine but that obviously adds time.

I've spent lots of time on the BI, and think that covers most things to do in Hawaii, but Oahu is different.  It's like Hawaii on steroids.  Hence, check out Oahu Revealed.  I've been to Pearl Harbor twice.  How long you spend depends on what you want to see/do.  Once we did the basics and were out in 2-3 hours, the other time we did almost everything.  If you do choose to do everything, you can spend an entire day there (7 hours).

A lot of the shows at the PCC are extremely untzniusdik, but there is some interesting cultural stuff.

how "safe" is the parking lot at diamond head and pearl harbor? united not allow check-in until 4 hrs before flight, so figured to leave luggage in rental minivan while out & about.

Not a great idea. Why not leave it at the hotel?

I'm heading to Oahu this winter and wont be able to Island hop, so I need to make the most of the island. I'm looking to stay at a luxury hotel. Does anyone have a recommendation or an experience that will help me narrow down the options? Here are the criteria:

1) needs to be within a 40 min drive to chabad
2) larger airy rooms are more preferable to smaller modern hotels.
3) looking for a luxury experience - my budget is up to 1,500 per night
4) if someone knows of a nice private villa/cottage with beach access that would work as well

Thanks!

Hyatt explorist.

Booked cheapest room.

Auto upgrade only got high floor city view.

$20 front desk tip @check-in got ocean front high floor diamond head tower.

Another $20 tip got regency club access.

Room is decent size but older hotel.

Stunning views.

Looks like 25 minute walk to shul.

Don't think there is an eruv but not sure.

Steak at the restaurant last night was good.

You can buy full bottle of wine at dinner and they keep your bottle over shabbos.

Sorry just got here so can't advise re tours, only doing the lazy mans tours: helicopter ride and playing golf.

Didn't bother renting car, parking is an expensive and hard to find in some places, uber is fast and fair pricing.
