« on: January 26, 2010, 12:14:52 PM »
I may be a little slow on the pickup, but can someone explain to me how to book an aa flight from cleveland to ny using the method explained over here:   http://www.dansdeals.com/archives/6256#comments  . I would like to know how to transfer as well as how many points I should transfer. Thanks in advance, Yoily

You need to login to your Starwood account at SPG.com and transfer 20,000 points to LAN.
You will receive 50,000 LAN kilometers.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

LAN books you the ticket on AA.

Starwood to LAN
« Reply #4 on: January 27, 2010, 09:08:24 AM »
Pardon my ignorance...

I want to transfer 20k starwood from my brothers account to my LAN account. Would they block it since its not the same name on the account? Anyone with any experience with this?

Thanks!

Officialy the names have to match. I know that transfers have gone through even when the names didnt match but it can sometimes take longer or not go through at all. I dont know about any success with LAN specifically.
Why dont you transfer the points from your brothers starwood account into your brothers LAN account and book the ticket from his account directly?

Because as Dan wrote, when trying to make a ticket on AA or something like that for another person they will need me to confirm everything etc... I figured it would just be easy like this... I hope it goes through!

Unlike AMEX MR points, it's very risky to transfer Starpoints to another person's mileage account.  I wouldn't recommend it, even if that means having to send LAN your driver's license and an authorization form.

The transfer can take 1-2 weeks.

Like Mike said it works for some airlines and not for others.

LAN books you the ticket on AA.
How do you calculate Lan miles needed for an AA flight?

A point of reference, here is a recent post I found on Flyertalk;
I have had transfers to LAN airlines take anywhere from 7 days to 21 days with the average being about 10 days. I have also done over 10 of these

It's distance based as explained here:

Is it true that on a ticket from NY to Miami, besides for the 28k lan kilometers, you still need to pay around $60 for tax and fees?

I doubt it.
For Chicago-Montreal there were just $39 in taxes, less than the $45 AA charges.

Well, I called yesterday, and since I don't have a account with Lan, I had to pull tooth and nail, to have the guy look up sample dates in March, and he seemed quite confident that the tax is always around $60. Since you do have an account would you mind giving them sample dates and finding out. After giving up over 10k starwood points, that you can easily get $200 for, I find a additional $60, not quite worth it. Thanks
