Please help me. How to format a Windows Netbook??

have a POS netbook with only basic windows, but stored some files on it.


I spent forever trying to figure out how to format it. I suspect they don't have an option in this version of Windows.

Can anyone help?

Otherwise try booting thru a usb or hard drive...

If you have the windows ISO file then you can copy it to a usb/hard drive and boot it from there, it will automatically reinstall windows.

How do I get the Windows ISO (what is that)?

The file to boot from.

If you have a CD with Windows then it is usually in ISO format.
If yes then copy to external disk (or use external CD reader) and boot from there.

I don't have any of those.
I do have some Ubuntu CD's, but can't see how that will help me.

Anyway, thing is worth less than $100.

Just frustrated because people have been asking for it.

And apparently formatting doesn't help to totally delete files, the best option is to rewrite.

Now then, about paranoia: Most of these programs offer several wiping methods, some of them elaborate routines that write over your drive 35 files to make sure nothing can be restored. But a simple, one-pass wipe will render your data inaccessible to any software that an identity thief is likely to have. A one-pass wipe is also faster (we're talking hours instead of days) and in some cases, cheaper. So unless you have reason to fear the FBI, you can probably skip the massively slow and secure Gutmann method.

So, on to the recommendations:

If you decide to delete select folders and files, go with the free, open source Eraser. Once you've installed the program, just right-click an unwanted file or folder and select Erase.

I sold a Dell netbook and would like to delete any personal info before shipping it.

Is there any way to do this without formatting the hard drive? It did not come with a Windows reinstall disc.

Not a expert, but you could restore to factory condition, then wipe the hard drive with cc cleaner.
