This RT-qPCR test is very sensitive for the presence of SARS-CoV-2, with 98% of tests providing either a positive or a negative result, and only 2% of tests providing an inconclusive result. The test can detect fewer than 10 copies of viral genes per milliliter of saliva, and can detect the presence of virus in the saliva within 2 days of infection and up to 28 days after infection. Across all known gene sequences of SARS-CoV-2, the test detects the ones in the genes of interest ~100% of the time, making it highly sensitive and specific for those genes.

Currently, the false positive and false negative rates for this specific test cannot be calculated, because the lab and Vault do not receive data on what happens to patients after they receive a test. We do not know if patients with a negative test go on to develop symptoms and subsequently receive a positive test result (false negative) or if an uninfected patient with a positive result then goes on to have another test that’s negative (false positive). However, emerging data about false negative rates of saliva-based COVID tests are showing that the false negative rate for saliva-based tests may be closer to 10%, which is significantly lower than those of nasopharyngeal swab-based tests, which are in the 25-35% range.

They are regular PCR tests with results in 24 hours

Which lab? Do you actually get the? I also thought i would get results from chai care but nothing doing from Thursday.

I did the saliva test, it’s the same one through Vault Health and Rutgers lab that I paid $150 out of pocket for back in May. Spit for a minute or so into a tube and get results in 48 hours or less emailed to you. Last time I got it in only a few hours so I’m hoping I get similar here.

There was no line by Blue Claws and they didn’t ask for too much information.

Update: got results from all 3 tests at 11 AM today (took the test at 4 PM yesterday)

I think you'll be out of quarantine before you get the results. This is sure to make people run to test and quarantine as soon as they have the first hint of COVID

Nah I went to get tested elsewhere. I think this is an issue specific to Chai Care and the no-name lab they use. i think it'll be positive. My daughter is almost certainly positive. Loss of taste, etc,

If it's positive, you just added 2 to the tally.
