The concept is legit. The basic idea is that you get a credit for a dollar amount on your utility bill and then billed separately by the Community Solar provider for the credit less whatever discount they are giving you. This typically ranges from about 10% to about 20%. This has been around in other areas already for a couple of years. The most common complaint about it is that people don't understand how the numbers add up. This can mean having 2 bills and a lack of clarity of why there are both charges and (if and) how that saves you money. Most of the providers require the customer to have ACH set up to auto debit your account each month and will drop the account if a payment doesn't go through. Some also accept credit card. I couple of companiesare able to bill for the entire utility bill on their bill and they take care of paying the utility for you.
