BS I hate places like that.
Their store (at least the one on James) is always so dirty and such slow service.
And for .....ing sake at least they should have the balls to admit that they are making friking big bucks of everything there
FTR, when they started they were indeed non-profit.  Somewhere along the way, they changed the structure, but the name stuck.

There is a program called Moadim L'simcha that provides groceries at literally cost price before Pesach and Sukkos. It is distributed at the stadium parking lot.

Unfortunately, a few years back the store owners complained that it's taking away from their parnassa and inhibiting their ability to charge whatever they want so the list of people 'allowed' to shop at Moadim L'simcha have been severely limited.
L'maysah not that hard to get on.  I am a rebbi, and in kollel, so officially I have no problem.  But when I go, I see plenty if people who shouldn't 'officially' qualify.  Obviously, they are not too picky.

Npgs has 3 huge stores u really think Krm gets cheaper than them? :o He just has a monopoly & when krm wanted 2 open took them 2 din torah so he can do what he wants
KRM also has 3 stores... Moshe's in Flatbush and Mountain food in the catskills are also owned by the same guy, Moshe Binick... They all deliver as well...

But don't worry the prices will probably be hiked due to the 'freight' costs... or some other excuse...

There doesn't seem to be any interest in Lakewood for a clean, organized well stocked store. The places that I've been food shopping at are all disgustingly dirty and disorganized.
I found Kosher West to be quite clean compared...

Don't know when this din torah was. But if we were notified, we would've staged a major protest outside, forcing the beis din to allow KRM and the other competition here. Maybe it happened when Lakewood was smaller. Today there is no reason not to have KRM here.

I used to live OOT, and almost any OOT big chain will put tri state stores to shame.  Kroger, Safeway, Publix, Jewel, etc.  all are 5-star resorts compared to what I have been accustomed to here.

the shoprite in boro park is just awful. I bought something for $7. I hand over a 50. She gives me back $33. She can't figure out why I want another $10. The manager couldn't either figure it out.

I'm used to it already and it doesn't bother me.  But, I would love to see Kroger open up here.  I have never seen an unprofessional Kroger store.  Granted some are better than others, but IMO better than Shoprite (and least the one's I have seen).

If Kroger came to NYC it would end up looking just like everything else here.

Part of me thinks you may be right, but I'm not so sure.  A lot of it has to do with management mentality.  AFAIK they are not in the tri state area.  If they come here, with a clean slate, and with the right mentality, I think they could be different.

Again, 100%.  But if management is serious (and pays well), then IMO it can be done.
